I think my brain is going to explode! I have been searching old posts for relavent information, that SEEMS to be outdated. My plan from the beginning was to create quality hubs, with at least 700-800 words, in niches that many are not writing about. Based on my current reaserch, these are the conclusions/questions that I have come to. Remember I am new to all this, not the internet, but trying to get something going myself.

    Backlinking
    -don't pay for any links
-only create them by hand, if I do any at all.
-will spending time creating backlinks be a waste of time now or in the near future?
-there are tons of social bookmarking sites, should I bookmark my hubs at one, as many as I can, or none of them?
-after I have a few articles, start linking them together
-do or don't link my hubs to other people's?
-are sites like digg and shetoldme worth spending time being an active member?

    SEO
-let's just say my keyword phrase is "lose weight fast", how many times should that be used in a 1000 word article?
    -or does it not matter?
-if you change the wording around, will it still count?, for instance-"the weight you will lose, will come off fast"?
-how many keywords should you target, when writing a article, example- lets just say the hub name "lose weight fast" is avalible. Do I take it? or go with "lose weight fast by running up and down steps"?

By the way, I plan on being more active on hubpages soon. My biggest problem now is, I am doing all this on dial-up. Yup, I said dial-up. The only way I can get high speed here is through satelite, and it's just not in the budget currently. My plan is to see if I can make a 100$ a month. Then I could get high speed and get things moving quicker. I just went to digg, and it took about 10 minutes just for my home page to come up. AAARRRGGG!!!!! My last hub took me two days to finish with all the dial-up problems and slowness.

sorry for the long post, I should have made it a hub! lol, any help would be greatly appreciated!

First step might be go over to google and check out the guidlines for seo.  There are plenty of hacks and self-professed experts, gurus, enlightened ones, professionals, ha, cough.  No, really.  It isn't that difficult.  Its like a clitoris.  Don't think about it too much, just do the business.

Brain explosions are bad and should be avoided.
In other words, don't try to learn it all at once. I think you are doing the right thing by plunging in. One of the great things about HubPages is that you can always go back to edit and add as you discover things that will improve a hub.
It's good to read old posts, but even better to make sure you have the suggestions in the help section and FAQ's in mind, as well as visiting the learning center now and then.
Welcome-- hope you enjoy the experience.
