Obama is going to India for three days and it looks like we're invading India with 34 warships, an aircraft carrier, and Helicopter Marine One.  In addition, the entourage is renting 800 rooms and brought with them 40 cars as part of a convoy.  This is costing us $200 million a day.  Now I know we have to keep the President safe, but if it's that dangerous and that costly for him to go, not to mention the cost for India who is also making sure that they are doing all they can so that nothing happens to our president, ummm, might it not be the better plan to have the Indian president and his delegation come and visit us, again?

He should cancel the trip, the Queen of England is not even having a Christmas party out of respect for the economic pain in her country.

And the money 'budgeted' for this gross spectacle of excess, could forever change for the economic better multitudes of small town economies all over this country.  Have a lotto for all podunk under 3K population American towns -- that would inspire some hope and change and a little fun and would be money well spent.  Lotto winners get 2 million for example, in one day 100 small towns in America would have money in the bank for viable economic proposals that would stimulate their economies.

This trip is disgraceful and grotesque.

He is committed to the economic summits, he is determined to align the US with the Euro and take the dollar down. Look at the feds rediculous actions yesterday, buying our own Bonds, something all the experts said will "never" happen, but it did..?  buying our own debt.

He is bought and paid for by Tycoons  who want economic control and a one world currency.  He would not think of canceling it. And it also lets him duck the contraversy of the election results, having to answer questions like..."do you understand the meaning of it?"

it is all calculated, he has it factored in, so to say.

What can he really contribute to the economic summits when all he's done is add more debt for the country?  In addition, as you said, Bernanke is making things worse by devaluing the dollar and increasing inflation by buying our own bonds in an effort to get corporations to release cash - how is Obama, who doesn't understand economics, going to explain to them that this is a good idea when they know that it's not.

Perhaps he will ask you, with all of your economic experience and impressive education in economics and business, to advise him.  You do have such, right?

He can contribute nothing to this summit, not even representation of the USA based on his press conference yesterday and the election.  The best thing he can do is video conference in and say he's being frugal on behalf of the American people who elected him.  Ha, that will never happen, he and MEchelle will continue to milk us like the royalty they perceive themselves to be now -- terribly UNAmerican.

The $200 million dollars a day BS is a MYTH started by an unnamed idiot in India. Someone needs to check their fact before shooting their mouths off. By the way, it's been several months since the health care package was passed, when is this a**hole Linbaugh going to be true to his word and pack up and moving to Casta Rica (they have ubiversal health care there)?

They love BS, Paul!  Can't you tell by all of the stupid threads they start by using BS reports as their source?  Even when they are proven wrong they just start another one.  Most are so ridiculous they are great to show your friends for laughs!  Try it, works every time!

we need to really look at the estimates Flight, I am not sure about the navy estimate as that would be aprox 10% of their entire fleet????

as for the cost, that I believe. I think it is to pay back Inda for some favor, either a loan against the debt, or a loan to the Fed for the order to pay for buying back our own Bonds, or possibly something else. It will eventualy come out I think  smile

very very waistfull if it is so.

It's not really to out of the ordinary.  The Carrier Strike Group will follow the Carrier wherever it goes for protection.

India is also close to finalizing a major $44 Billion defense deal, and the Carrier is home to the F/A-18s the Indians have been evaluating.

I did not think that Strike groups were up to 34 war ships?

But that could be possible, and yes the F18 they do want, and may be, in truth, be getting a couple to test for themselves, we are not being told all of it I think. smile

some kind of deal going on I think.

You are correct a CSG is not 34 warships, but again it's probably more to do with the defense proposal than protecting the president.

Flightkeeper - Didn't you hear that was all Republican hype?  None of it is true and even common sense could have told any enlightened individual that it sounded like nonsense.  You people really have to stop believing all the lies you hear on Fox news - it makes you look stupid.

ediggityposted 13 years agoin reply to this

True or not, it doesn't really make sense for protection purposes.  Additionally, it was probably the result of a foreign news source anticipating the trip.

The problem with you’re growling Flightkeeper is that it is practically neutralized when one realizes that the cost of US warships daily varies very little weather the president is on board or not.

I couldn't agree with you more...and if India were to come here...Could their President throw a few jobs back to our country that have been outsourced there?  Just wondering.  Better yet, why doesn't Obama just stay home and spend the money on creating JOBS here!

"This is costing us $200 million a day."

No it is not, nor will there be 34 warships.

So the Press Trust of India can't be trusted apparently.  If true then I am relieved.   Now I'm wondering, given what happened in the Mumbai massacre, what they are doing to protect him while he's there and how much it would cost.  It just opens up a whole new can of worms.

This isn't a vacation. He'll be attending the G20 Summit in Seoul and the APEC Summit in Yokohama in addition to working on US relations with India and Indonesia.

    All about the trip:

None of that requires 3000 people and 200 million a day, or 100 million a day, etc....including fully booking the Taj Mahal -- this trip is pure Ego - he needs to lose the overt ego manifestations, or he will not be respected, much less elected again by the American people. It is grotesque, a Halloweenish joke on America.

I like my small town lotto idea -- quite a lot.  smile I suspect the Queen of England would as well.

Christeneposted 13 years agoin reply to this

        None of that is true.

No 3000 people. No $200 million a day. And the "Taj Majal" in question is a hotel, not the mausoleum in Agra.

Be sure and tell CNN what the real numbers are, and geez the unwashed masses of America do understand it is an entire hotel he's booking, not a monument... ROFL ROFL

  5. SiddSingh profile image60
    SiddSinghposted 13 years ago

The huge sum of US$ 200 million is definitely exaggerated - there is no way even a US President's visit is going to cost that much. Not even with the Taj (the hotel in Mumbai, not the original edifice in Agra)wholly booked will cost that much!

In India, there are no real expectations from the visit - no one would be surprised or disappointed if he canceled his visit. At least he wouldn't achieve anything that he could not achieve in Washington DC.

On the other hand, Indians being such suckers for symbolism - they will be happy that the American prez paid a visit - even if no progress is made at all in the Indo - US relationship.

This is just a case of false alarmist with idiotic intentions. How can someone come out here and post false stories just to drag the presidents name to the mud. It just shows the quality of people here. Why not get ur facts right without the intention of bias before posting in a public forum

Okay, now we know it's 9 aircraft including Air Force One, a squadron of naval ships patrolling offshore, 45 armored limos, 300 US security men, and they're building a tunnel to the Gandhi museum. I guess this is more believable but dang this 10-day trip is gonna be expensive.
