There was also a shift mentioned when the earthquake hit Peru.
Wonder how much that will effect us?

Yeah I had read that one too. I also learned that we lost a second or two from the day because of the severity of the quake. I live in earthquake country too and have been through my fair share of them. But I cannot even begin to wrap my head around an 8.9.

Tokyo Population - over 12 million, or about 10 percent of Japan's population, Tokyo is by far the country's most populous and most densely populated

I don't want to even imagine, if that nuke blows

Pray pray pray.   It's cold in Japan right now.  I don't think most Japanese people have enough space to really stock up of things.  I saw on CNN that there is one road open into the area and the number of government or aid vehicles was sparse.   Apparently they are using helicopters.  But people were running from building in what they were wearing, sometimes without shoes.  It was snowing.  The water is cold.  It is just horrible beyond comprehension.  Pray.

I have been following the news closely.  This is unimaginably huge.  I feel for the people dealing with this horrific catastrophe.

Last year's powerful Chilean earthquake also shifted the earth's axis which resulted in a shortened length of day due to the increased speed of rotation of the Earth's axis.  I'm assuming the same has occurred with this earthquake.
