I have never seen a better explanation of the left as this piece! It clearly explains why Krugman is an idiot and Obama is clueless! Lol!

This should be recommended reading for all!

While I agree with the article's general sense of the left regarding policital correctness and blindness towards reality and history, the article is hardly what I would call "recommended reading" for anyone. It's just a rant meant only to make people who already believe as the writer does feel good about their position. I mean, it's okay, there were lots of "Yep, that's true," moments in it for me emotionally, but as a thoughtful person who does use what I learned in school (as the author rails about in the piece), I can also spot a piss-poor argument, bad rhetoric, and unsupported claims too. All of which that article is full of. So, despite my agreeing with about 70% of his sense of things, as far as recommended reading goes, I'd say not at all. It's worthless for anything but preaching to the choir.

True... it is a bit of a rant but he does make some good points regarding the left particularly their ability to ignore history and cling to beliefs that have been proven failures! I wouldn't say its recommended reading for no one, but perhaps Krugman and Obama and his buddies should have a look. It couldn't hurt knowing how your enemies view you.

For a rant about the historical illiteracy of the left, it contains an awful lot of factual mistakes and misleading wordplay. tongue

My favorite was this: "The more conservative nations, led by Winston Churchill, FDR (in spite of the New Deal), and Harry S Truman, in a Devil's Bargain with Jozef Stalin, defeated Hitler and Tojo."

Let's see. One conservative Tory and two liberal Democrats (one of whom is arguably the president most hated by conservatives precisely because of the aforementioned New Deal) make them "more conservative?" That's some interesting math.

It also ignores the fact that as damage to the Third Reich goes, Stalin was responsible for much more of it than any of the other three. But that's a mistake made by most Americans, so it can be excused, if you don't mind those of us who studied real world history and not the ridiculous propaganda that passes for it in most American high schools and 101 level college courses pointing and laughing at you.

I'm equally amused by the notion that the Founding Fathers were conservative in any sense of the word. The modern understandings of conservative and liberal don't apply, but in the context of their time, the Founding Fathers were not just not conservative, they were some of the most radical radicals who ever lived. Overthrowing the rule of a king ordained by God in favor of a government "by the people, for the people?" Heavens! Get the smelling salts!

The real conservatives of the era spent more than a century trying to clamp back down on the spirit of liberty unleashed there (check out the revolutions of 1830 and 1848 for starters), and only really gave up the fight after World War I, when an entirely different set of forces got unleashed on the world.

Excellent point MM - our Founding Fathers were some iconoclastic hell-raisers - treasonous to a fault.

Right they were the original liberals proposing individual freedom and limited government but now the left has polluted the meaning of the term and made the right conservatives as if that's a bad thing, but they've perverted liberalism to mean socialism! !
