What do you base your belief, or disbelief in God on?

   I personally have tons of reasons why I do believe in God. I didn't just wake up and say, "Huh, God sounds feasible.. Guess I'll go with that."
   
   The reality of demons and such was always big with me prior to being full on Soldier for Christ. I used to study people, stories, documents, places, and all kinds of other stuff that had to do with them. I was always told God was real, and seeing as God nor Angels showed up, I wanted proof.
   
   I found it. The harder I looked, the more I saw. And the scarier things got for that matter. They don't mind showing their faces under the right circumstances. If they can scare the be-daisies out of you, you can bet they'll show up and enjoy making you nearly pee your pants.
   
   It's deeper than that, but you get the point.
   
   So what's your story???

      same here...i didnt wake up one morning as said oh religious gods are false...it was gradual ...as i started seeing world around me ...as i began to understand how nature operates...as i started to see other species and not just humans...as i began to have more holistic view ...my simple conclusion was that religious god are made up stories and it doesnot work that way...though religion has its own place in human life and it does have had its immense share of contribution but it remains just one phase of human development...

      Mostly scared people like you taught me it was nonsense as a young man. I can smell the fear on believers from a long way off. And your fear invariably causes you to act in ways guaranteed to cause conflicts. Despite claiming to love people. So - I stared to look at the whole Christ myth with open eyes.
      
      And once you look into it dispassionately - you realize how silly and dangerous it is.
      
      This is why your religion causes so many wars.
      
      It is far, far deeper than that - but you get the point.

         Wars aren't caused by religion, but by people. Eradicate religion and people will kill each other over their beliefs regarding Coke and Pepsi.

            Nonsense. This is the usual desperate defense by religionists. Sure - there are other reasons people kill each other and cause wars, but religion surely is one of those reasons.

      interesting....christians were always looking for demons behind every bush - scaring themselves silly.  Since I walked away, that stuff doesn't bother me anymore.

            not interested thanks.  I did read about how they don't move by themselves, people have their fingers on them & how it spells nonsense if blindfolded.

               dont blame bible for that...people who wrote it wrote to best of their ability...we need to consider era in which they lived , social structure, governance of those times , how things worked etc...in end they were humans ...their intent might have been good but yes now they are slowly becoming irrelevant and wont be able to stand to changing times of the current world...

                  if you believe the bible was inspired of god, then it will stand the test of time.   He simply used the writers as secretaries are used by their bosses, then god signed it to say it was from him, as a boss would.......

                     I'm not old but I'm not young either. I don't have any "phases" left that's for sure.. Except maybe... old.

                           People like God more than they know..
                           
                           They just don't like being sinners...
                           
                           Why would they? It sucks to be wrong.. 
                           
                           And Linux is all I'll use now. Windows is for people that like fixing things.. (constantly that is)

   I was raised Christian, and went to church every week. I actually liked church, because we went to quite a fun one where there were activities for children, like creating collages of key scenes from the New Testament.
   
   But while I did like church and I liked reading the Bible too, I didn't believe in any of it. It was like Santa or the Tooth Fairy to me: a great idea, but not a truthful one. Eventually, after trying to make myself believe it, I gave up and accepted that I'm an atheist.

   In one post a Hubber might make a good point about God being nice... and I become a believer
   
   Then in reply, Mark might call him an idiot, so I embrace his views.
   
   In any given moment, I can be an atheist, a peaceful Ahmadi, a not so peaceful Ahmadi, a Buddhist, a born again baptist, a Mormon, or a vegetarian
   
   (I know vegetarianism isn't a religion, but the only way I would really stop eating meat is if God Himself told me to stop)

   I understand Mark, i understand all people that dont believe in god.  Maybe i am weak, but i could not imagine not having God as a friend.  I believe he is always there for me, and wont hurt me, is that based on fear maybe? I like to think it is based on that fact that I thank someone call him god, for actually putting me on the earth, to be able to communicate, live my life.....  Hopefully his purpose one day will come true.  I wish we could all unite, not in a religion, but in understanding..... I hate disagreements of any kind.
