A Jerusalem rabbinical court condemned to death by stoning a dog it suspects is the reincarnation of a secular lawyer who insulted the court's judges 20 years ago.

Found this on Yahoo and decided it was a wind-up until it goes into detail !

How can qualification through a religious education possibly make an impartial judge !!

Can't. That's a good one, like the Chines banning reincarnation.

Does that mean there is a long queue of pending incarnee's waiting for a policy change ?  or would all those 'in betweeners' have to emigrate I wonder ?

I would say 'Now I've heard everything' but, this being Hub Pages. Probably not. That story is almost too crazy to be believed.

It's being reported elsewhere as well (of course, in this world of the 'net and sensationalism), but remember it comes from a "nobody" in the court and the head judge, who supposedly said the words, denies it.

One report I saw did say that nearby children were instructed by the judge in question (although not by the court, but simply by the judge as a figure of authority) to throw rocks at the dog to chase it away.

This is not the real issue - what is not denied is the belief that a person can be reincarnated as a dog and return to 'insult' the judge !

And these people - with their opposing counterparts, either already have control of nuclear weapons, or soon will have.  I doubt there will be enough animals to reincarnate all the wandering souls that are the almost inevitable result of these beliefs and actions in conjunction with today's modern technology.

I once had a coworker explain how to get rid of warts.  It seems that if you cut a potato in half and rub it on the wart it will go away.  Now I might believe that possibility (the potato has certain acids and other chemicals that might affect a wart), but he went on to say that you must then tie the potato back together and bury it under the full moon.  And I lost all interest.

There are people in the US today that claim man has never walked on the moon, and there are others that firmly believe that 2000 years ago a man died, rotted in a cave for 3 days and came back to life.

Ignorance is not limited to the near east and neither is technology.

Of more concern, at least to me, is that the ignorance has produced an eagerness to kill others to gain an imaginary eternal life.  That particular madness didn't seem to hit other religions - they simply killed out of hate and to plunder.

the only part you have wrong is that you should rub your wart on a toad and then let it go, potatoes only came into fashion after people got too lazy to go toad hunting at midnight under a full moon.

lol  I'll remember that when I next get a wart! lol

Although...are you sure it isn't to be rubbed with an eye of newt first and then wrapped in wool of bat?

The story seems hard to believe. The Jewish religion does not believe in reincarnation. So it seems bizarre that a Jewish religious court would believe that a lawyer had been reincarnated at all, let alone as a dog.

If this "judge" really believes it he has likely lost his marbles and I doubt that he is representative of predominant views. Sort of reminds me of that Judge in the U.S. who sued a dry cleaner for 50 million because they ruined his favorite pants. Just because you are a judge does not mean you are stable or that your views represent those of the rest of the legal system or society.
