Obama constantly says things like “Folks want answers” and it almost seems degrading. Maybe it is just me.

  I guess in these verbally dangerous times the use of the term folks may be seen as a term not in danger of offending anyone.therefore the use by Obama and the media.don't forget every single group of people are very sensitive these days, both in the right and the left.the righties constantly mock the lefties for being political correctness fanatics but god forbid any of their groups are refered to as something they don't like they go ballistic too.

  Well, this whole silly stink about the POTUS using the word "folks". Big deal dude! Personally, it seems good to have a president who doesn't butcher the language like the last Texan to sit in the Oval office. Seriously, have you ever sat down and read the "Bushisms" made famous by your state's favorite son?
  
  You should like Obama using the "folks" word. It's kinda "Uncle Tomish" or perhaps even "Uncle Remuslike" in a way. You should enjoy that image in your mind.

  Yes, I think you should visit the 4th ward in Houston. They'll take care of you. There is always Telephone road, also in Houston. Just go to any place there and tell them how you feel about Texas and Texans, they'll make you feel right at home.

  Telephone Road is a popular tourist attraction in Houston, you should really visit there. I'm sorry you found Texas not to your liking, we do have Baptists we also have Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Muslims, Jews and many more. I won't offer an opinion on Georgia as I have never been there, but maybe that's opinion enough.

  Sort of. One room log cabins, one lane muddy, bumpy, roads. No school text books to speak of either. One teacher for all ages of children, no school buses to transport children to the-I hesitate to use the word-schoolhouse, no free vaccinations to prevent many diseases in children, who otherwise would not have access to them.
  
  However, if you happened to be wealthy your children would have the best private tutors to ensure they would always be above the common, poorly educated, riffraff.
  
  Can you imagine everyone freely volunteering to give money to build a bridge over a river on the land of another citizen? Especially if they had land nearby and wanted the bridge themselves for its commercial location.
  
  Also, what if the guy on the other side of the river didn't want a bridge or road going through his property? We have to have a certain amount of socialism, in our lives because with our present population, people being social to one another is not a given.

  This is really cr. Randy. Today our children are indoctrinated by Marxism. Home schooling are doing well, better than average. Before socialism was here I came to this country escaped from socialism. You would see the difference. Best universities and scientific progress came from free America. It was not socialism. You are mixing things.

  Randy you must be tired. Your thinking is not right. I came to this country 45 years ago. The country was united. There were schools, my wife was volunteer until my kids graduated and after. But socialists were very obscured, invisible. Then they started show up. After Soviets collapsed communistic magazine increased as well as membership. Democrats in gov. started showing there horns. Control started. Regulations killed everything. Factories were leaving out. Only medical could not go out. Then heavy regulations came. I will tell you what. Medicate I billed circa $1400 for care of 7 patients. They send me two checks five cents each. I did frame it. Calls, letters nothing helped. Now you should read Obamacare. If one is old has not chance to treat cancer. Now you judge.

  Wow...I never thought of the word "folks" as degrading - only friendly and all-encompassing. And I'm from NY. Wonder what a north/south poll would say. People who see it as degrading need to lighten up and get out more. They may be a wee-bit close-minded.

  Folk is a collective term and could include Obama with no disrespect. Mr President is a specific title and one used in formal situations, I doubt if he would feel at all slighted if in a face to face conversation you called him "Mr".

  What's wrong with it is that Obama said it. It's clear that he meant it in the most demeaning, degrading way possible, and he speaks it each time with absolute venom in his heart as he thinks hateful thoughts about all Republicans and all white people as part of his secret plot to destroy America and turn it over to the Muslims as part of the new and glorious Caliphate. I kind of like "folks". (I'm guilty of using it.) It's better than "you guys", and certainly better than "you people", and it's a little less "generic" and "cold" than "people". "People" almost seems like, "What is there besides people - animals?" "The American people" is really over-used, but even "Americans" can sound kind of generic or over-used. Anyway, even as someone who tends to go for the "conventional" words, I kind of like "folks".

(It strikes me funny that some of you folks on here don't like it. )

  I realize I may not like "folks" if it's used by people who'd use other language "in keeping" with "folks". I only like it when it's otherwise out of "language style" for the person. It changes its meaning somehow. There's never really any excuse for an American president to use "amigos" IMHO. Somehow, to me, "folks" would be too folksy if used by someone as part of an overall folksy style of speaking. If used by someone who generally has a more formal way of speaking it seems friendlier than "all formal/all the time".

I have no problem at all hearing the word "folks" when the president uses it--I get so sick of hearing "The American People" that I heartily welcome the change, lol.

But I wish everyone would stop saying that if you disagree with something the president says or does that you are racist...it's getting so old...

There are lots of things that I don't agree with the President Obama about, but it has NOTHING to do with what he looks like, and I know that other "folks" feel the same way that I do.
