    What's your favorite meal to prepare in advance and then put in the freezer to eat later, either cooked ahead of time or not?

      Jerry Seinfeld once said and I'm about to butcher the quote because I"m too lazy to look it up.

      I don't see why people eat frozen foods, fresh foods are available.

      Then again he might have said frozen vegetables, fresh vegetables.

        Fresh foods are great if you always have the time to cook them. I'm very pregnant at the moment, though, so it helps to have a few meals in reserve smile

      I make an awesome chili. And I load up the freezer with a dozen servings. And it has been way too long since I have last done that.

        Chilli is great stuff. Breakfast of champions smile (sometimes I actually do eat left-over chilli for breakfast).

    I had a massive crop of home-grown tomatoes this year so I made several batches of what I call a "generic tomato sauce" from onions, garlic, tomatoes, a bit of fresh chilli and mushrooms. Add mince and bacon, and you've got bolognaise sauce. Add kidney beans and chilli powder on top of that, and you've got chilli con carne. You can also add dollops of this sauce to curries and stews.

      Cooked tomatoes are said to be good for your health, even better for you then fresh tomatoes.

    My food preference is East-European:

    I make them, buy ready made, freeze'em; easy to cook - just throw into boiling water, 5 minutes and enjoy with sour cream or some fresh salad on a side. It can be anything but I prefer meat inside.

      Yum, are those pierogies? I'm part Polish and have always loved them much to my husband's confusion. smile

    When I moved and needed to rebuild my supply of frozen meals, I cooked double portions every night for 2 weeks. I freeze casseroles, stews, BBQ meats, and other meals that have a sauce. The sauce prevents freezer burn.

      That's a great idea. I think I might need to get to doing that, at least on the days when we don't have stuff to do at night. We lost our frozen food supply during the hurricane (thankfully there wasn't a lot there at the time),  and with a baby on the way I really should make sure we have some stuff.

      I'd never thought about making things with sauce to prevent freezer burn (which I really hate), so I will definitely keep that in mind. Thanks so much!

    I do not tend to make any meals beforehand and freeze them. Though it would be smart of me to do so. However, a lot of my dinners also do not take more than 30 minutes to prepare anyways. And my two year old loves to help. But honestly I tend to freeze soups. Any type of soup, because I usually make too much of it to feed my three person family.
    My mom tends to make stuffed shells or lasagna and freezes it for large family get togethers. And I have frozen Shepard's pie and chicken pot pie.

        ...well...good ?....because they are local and taste so good  - heads are already removed usually - i either clean and peel first or just clean and peel after they are cooked.  I simply crush up lots of garlic and place the garlic in lots of melted butter in a fry pan...and then add the prawns - cook them for about 2 minutes max....they are so tasty - i buy them from the harbour; direct from the fishermen and freeze those that i won't eat right away - fresh is best;

        and eat it with salad - fav is my caesar salad.....
