Can someone tell me what is the minimum amount of words you can use

      The minimum number of words is around 400, but if you really want Google to notice your hubs it is better to write 700-1500 words.
      I guess hubs which have less than 400 get the substandard seal.

   The minimum is not 400, I have several just under that. But to get Google to notice 600+ is a good number to aim for.

   No one can give you a figure.  If Hp were silly enough to publish such a thing it would promptly be abused as thousands of hubs with just that number would be published by "writers" seeking to game the system instead of providing information to a reader.
   
   Write as many as the subject requires.  If that is less than several hundred, find a different subject.

         Many rules are set up that way and I'm sure it is intentional.
         
         How many quotes make a hub "duplicate"?
         
         How many times can you use the word "breast" before it is kicked out?
         
         Such things would always be a target for the gamers.  Better that they be left unspecified and simply expect and demand that the writer provide useful information.  At least we'll be more likely to see at least a [i]little[/] value from their work.

      I disagree. I would not want to see anything shorter than 250 words (except poems). There are hubs in the 350-400 words range that do very well indeed. I have written a short review, for example, that is on page one in Google for a prominent search term. There is no valid reason to discourage Hubbers from writing short hubs.

         Hmm.  Perhaps a little misunderstanding - I would consider a 400 word hub to be "several hundred" words long, and quite all right as long as it covered the subject adequately.
         
         Two hundred, on the other hand, isn't worth writing in my opinion and should not be published (outside of poetry, just as you say).

   I agree with Website Examiner, Google will crawl short amounts as short as 250, but you want to provide at least 400 words in my opinion because I think this is a respectable number for to claim you have at least investigated and have knowledge about a subject. Also,to have a respectable amount like this means Google bot will pick up on more of your keywords, but don't practice keyword stuffing.
   
   HP requires 50 words for every Amazon capsule, so say you have 4 capsules thats 200 words, plus an introduction of about 200 words extra.. this is a good example

   Sorry If I had made a mistake there,... The idea of answering the question was not to put someone off from writing a short hub but to help ..and if I remember right when we had the poetry contest Hubpages laid down the condition that even poetry hubs had to have 500 words as minimum for the contest. The general ideas is longer hubs do better.
   This was a clarification that I would like to offer to the discussion so that the OP does not get confused. I guess we draw from our own experiences...but what is stated is the general trend... Thanks. Have a great day!

   From memory, shorter hubs are allowed by Hubpages if you have other content (photos for instance.)
   
   I wrote a hub that is 330 words long. It was a topic that was "newsy" so I got hundreds of views for the first few days, but still gets at least 5 hits a day (it's a political one so I guess until parties change, that'll continue.)
   
   If you choose a good topic, and you've said everything important, short hubs can work.

   Although i've seen short hubs like 350 - 400 words ranked high in SERPs due to the fact that they're unique and informative. But participating in either 30 or 60 day challenge, one would need to create at minimum 600 words hub.

    Here is some information on stellar hubs from the learning center on this topic.

    I was also thinking about this for quite some time. Till date I have written 500 to 600 word count hubs but when I read other hubs, their word count seems more than this.I think 600- 700 word count is okay but if the chosen topic demands more word length then one needs to write that way. I would like to hear view of other hubbers. Also, is it okay if I write a 500 word count hub.
