Here is the email I received. Hope this helps:
"We do not sell images on Pinterest. If you want your images that are found and displayed on Pinterest without your authorization to be removed, you can send us a copyright infringement complaint form. Our form is located here by using the button at the bottom of the page: http://pinterest.com/about/copyright.
If you have an online portfolio of images and you don't want images from your site to be added to Pinterest, you can also use our meta-tag feature. You can embed the line of code below in any page header.
The code doesn't show on Hubpages.
When this is embedded on your page, our members will see the following message when they try to pin an image from your site:
"This site doesn't allow pinning to Pinterest. Please contact the owner with any questions. Thanks for visiting!"
I hope that helps!"
The main point is that you can't protect images here without the java script, but that Pinterest will NOT sell your images.
Pinterest, facebook, google are just content syndication sites. I don't know why people are against sharing. I can understand copyright violation but syndication for non-profit and sharing is harmless.
Because it is against HP's rules for me to put a watermark credit on my photos that I use in my Hubs.
The URL of the page where your image is located is automatically included when someone pins it. So if someone subsequently sees it on Pinterest, they have the option to come to your hub (or anywhere else it may have come from) to see it. This is a good thing. Pinterest can be a great source of traffic.
I think so. So far no traffic for me but I just got started.
The best way to get traffic on Pinterest is to first repin a lot of other people's images right from the Pinterest home page. Pin these on a variety of different boards to show that you're interested in diverse topics. Then, after you have a lot of pins (at least 500), start following a lot of people. If people see you're actively pinning, a lot of them will follow you back. The more followers you have, the more potential there is for repins and traffic.
Some suggestions for boards that are popular: cute animals, crafts, home decorating, fashion, weddings, cake decorating, funny stuff, celebrities, beautiful photos and art
Interesting tips. I don't have 500 pins but I do have a variety and from other sources than HP. I have actually gotten quite a few followers of people that are not "friends." I'll have to keep that in mind.
The reason for the 500 minimum is that power users (who will expose your pins to a lot of other people) will be more likely to follow you if have at least that many. That's not a hard and fast rule; just my observation.
Other than what some people have said, I hadn't thought that Pinterest was selling photos anyway. They are not for sale that I have seen. Thanks for the confirmation that they don't sell their images, that has to make some people happy that had concern.
If they don't intend to sell, why do they have 'sell' specifically in their terms of use. Along with the even trickier 'sublicense'.
However, those terms only apply to direct uploads. If your photos are pinned by somebody else, then no rights are claimed. I didn't realize this until I actually found the dang document and read it.
But it still makes me hesitant to make an account.

I have been pinning my Hubs on Pinterest for a few months now, and about 70 of my Hubs are now pinned. I have also had several of my pins to Hubs shared by others on Pinterest. Despite all of this, I do not have one single click from Pinterest showing up in my HubPages traffic...

How to use Pinterest effectively to get more views or traffic?Although I share my hubs as well as other' s hubs at Pinterest, it does not get me as much traffic as it should.

As you probably know, I love Pinterest. Well, I love the traffic I get from Pinterest, which usually makes up at least 50% of my daily traffic. I use "MFP images" to bring in traffic and get repins. Some people seem to be a little confused about how to do this, and today I found an...

The picture showing Queen Elizabeth and Michelle Obama with their arms around each other is ubiquitous on the web. I have a blog paralleling President Obama's First 100 Days in Office and our 100 days of being laid off back in 2009 that I'm making into an ebook. In one of the postings, I used...

I'm bored. Ok correction, I'm procrastinating. I randomly come on and off the forums and on this return visit I've seen SO many people questioning why their hubs aren't making money and/or getting traffic. So for as long I'm having fun, feel free to post below (either for your whole account or one...

We added the Pinterest "Pin It" button to the small collection of popular social-sharing buttons at the top of Hubs on Thursday. Pinterest has rapidly become one of the largest social media traffic drivers to HubPages, already substantially larger than Twitter and Reddit. Maddie wrote a...
