I was loathe to do it but he was like a dripping tap. I made the evidently big mistake of challenging the beliefs of a hard core creationist friend. It was like a red rag to a bull. Well I certainly got it both barrels and more. On and on and on and on. He selectively deleted my posts, the ones that he didn't want others to see, and for every one I posted, I got five back.

I've read about these types, they have well rehearsed 'rebuttals' of evolution, which as I understand it are nothing of the sort. Nothing but half truths and misinformation.

On the surface it would seem an easy task to present peer reviewed scientific information, but it would serve no purpose. Some creationists are hard core zealots who have no ability to reason or form an objective view of information that refutes their mindset. To them evolution is a scheme of Satan and Christians who are sympathetic to evolution are backsliding compromisers who are following doctrines of demons.

So I pulled the plug. I really could not be bothered any more. But what struck me was the complete onslaught, it was oppressive, dark, horrible.

You can simply choose to "hide" someone's remarks without having to unfriend them, but to each his own. That way you don't have to read all the stuff that offends you, and you won't be responding likewise with him. Just sayin.

Religion enables the adherents to feel enabled to use any means to defend their faith.  After all, they are defending a defenseless deity who cannot--or at least cares not--to defend itself.

They feel they are warriors for Jesus and fighting the good fight.  You did the right thing as these types are hopelessly indoctrinated into their particular cults and no facts or proof is good enough for them to even consider, much less accept, as truth.

Randy, I'm not sure that God needs to defend Himself, but that is another topic. But you are right there are some who are hopelessly indoctrinated, with whom debate is simply impossible.

Good for you!! Yes there comes a time to kick the dust from the boots and move on. You planted seeds and this person could not handle the truth. Maybe one day the seeds will take root. Only God knows, now.

This person denies God. It is impossible to deny God. It can not be done. It never will be. It has been tried for thousands of years and by hundreds of thousands. In fact there is more evidence today per prophecy coming to pass then any other time that God is God. Oh fools at heart they are. One day they will wish for mountains to fall on them because of their shame and the wrath of God to come on them. We can only pray that before it is too late their hard hearts are softened and eyes opened to the truth. I have seen it happen to many who denied Creation and God Almighty. Some will change their minds many will not. According to scripture. God Bless.

I know - sounds to me like we have Disappearinghead supporting evolution and unfriending a Creationist.  Most Christians do not believe in evolution or support it; more like the other way around, right? ~~ hmmmmmm.  Personally, the Bible states God made each and every creature according to or after their OWN kind (Gen 1:11-12).  There has been absolutely NO link in proving a species evolved into a totally different species.  Sure, man has gotten taller over the years ~ that type of 'evolution' happens, but a 'kind' does not become another 'kind', unless of course it's a shape-shifer (lol).

            Curious...

How many Chromosomes does the average human have? 23 pairs right?

And how many does a person with Down Syndrome (DS) have? An extra chromosome 21

And how many does basic apes have? 24 pairs right?

So if a human can be born with an extra chromosome, why couldn't an ape be born with 2 that merged? And this "mutation" just so happened to keep popping up over a period of time.

DS has increased at least twice in certain areas in the US. We had about a 25% increase between 79-83 and again 99-03. It might be interesting to figure out why this is. Evolution is a nature way of adapting to surroundings for survival.

I heard an interesting joke..."We should remove all warning labels and let nature take its course"

With respect JD there are large numbers of Christians in the science community who as far as they are concerned in their specialism, evolution is a done deal. Stats I read recently show that with higher educational attainment belief in creationism sharply decreases.

Randy Yes I read the post? Did you? I have a commission to tell all about Jesus Christ. He is the way truth and life. No one goes to the Father except through Jesus. No matter the topic evolution creationlist the bottom line is God. God is the creator. No doubt about it. Anyone that denies is a fool. Do I know it all. NO but I do have a direct line. Everyone does. It is a choice. Who do we choose to walk with and listen to? There is only one with all power. That is almighty God. If I do not share Jesus I am not planting seeds. Soon Jesus is going to return. It will be too late for many. God Bless you RG. No harm meant. Just passing on the truth. The direct link to GOD has the answers. All of Them!!!

That's great!  Where did you get the commission?  I'd love to see a copy of it, especially God's seal of approval of your message.  Or did he personally sign his name along the bottom of the document?  smile

Betting it's all in your head, though.  Self-proclaimed messengers are the only type I've seen so far.

Lol. "Dripping Tap". Funny. I know the type... in fact I am that person sometimes. I am a creationist. I have studied the subject diligently over the years and noticed that both sides lack good proof and both require faith. Since evolution provides no hope, I chose to put my faith in A Creator.
Love your topics DH. Keep 'em coming!

So if your god used evolution to attain his desired results this would be wrong?  What does it matter how he does it?  Or do you simply prefer a magical creations instead?  Oh, I see you're from Texas.  Welcome Baptist!  lol

I agree with what you have to say about creationist "friends" by and large. But I would also argue that as harmful as the Judeo-Christian religion is and blind its devotees, so are modern science, technology and their protagonists. I have basically two reasons for saying this.

      1. What is this about peer reviewed scientific information? I have yet to see a scientific paper that doesn't admit to at least some degree that the author's findings are not backed by enough evidence to be acceptable as absolute truth. Also, there is a reason why these papers ask more questions than what they answer, and it's because the authors know that keeping an open and inquisitive mind is the way to progress and new discoveries. Arguing a certain point mindlessly takes us nowhere other than the bottom of the "intelligence trap."

      2. What's more important is that science doesn't concern itself with the real issue, let alone the fact that it doesn't even seem to notice it. I'm talking about humankind's alienation from nature. Protagonists of modern science seem to think that the only means whereby anything can be responsibly approached are scientific. Any other method is either ridiculed or treated as a threat. In this respect the hierarchy of modern science resembles the antiquated priesthoods of the past more than anything else, whose vested interest is bogged down in the protection of its own system. But, please, look around and see where we are heading right now - to an insane, mindless and soulless future.

    I deny God.

    1. wilderness profile image94

You cannot.  You are only fooling yourself into believing that; in reality you know beyond any shadow of doubt that He exists and loves you.  You are also a "fool at heart" because you fool yourself.

skye2day, who apparently has a hotline directly to God, has declared it so and (s)he absolutely knows far more about you than you do.

I have to wonder, though, if you are are so full of shame that you wish for mountains to fall on you?  If so, would a simple landslide do (consider visiting California) or do you want a mountain to rise into the air, move over above your head and fall back down (prayer might help here)?

wilderness I do not deny GOD You are kidding. Absolutely NOT. How you got I deny Christ is crazy. So where do you get your info. What if just what if us Christians are right?? What if there is a God. He loves you and loves all He wants none to perish. No none. We have a choice wilderness. John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. I am not a fool my friend I know where I am going. I will be in Heaven. My name is in the lambs book of Life.

God has foretold us all things. I do have a direct link to God Almighty it is called the living Bible. You may want to pull it down one day and shake off the dust. How do you know if you do not know? It is a choice we make in this lifetime. Deny Jesus or Choose Jesus. You do not want to perish do you? YOU  Do you wonder what happens to you when you die? You do not go to a hole in the ground there is more. Eternity. Forever more.

Mark 13:23, 'But take ye heed: behold I have foretold you all things.' It was as if the Lord were saying, to me, as well as to his disciples at the time: 'Pay good heed to what I am telling you. I have told you all you need to know, and told you in advance so you can be warned.'

Revelation 6:16 And they cried to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb.

Wilderness I am saying a prayer for you... Truly. May God open your longing to know a Higher Being. A hole that longs to be filled. God put it there. He is the hole filler. Nothing else fills it. Maybe a temporary fix but God is calling and maybe He is calling to you. For your eternity and this life do not deny God. How could one deny God? Are we from apes or something? I think not.

        John 3:16

There seems to be an awful lot of miscommunication and misunderstandings on this thread.  I suppose when passions run so high revolving around a subject like this, a temporary hiccup must happen where it comes to reading.  And that's part of the problem and why points of view get missed.  Each is so stuck on getting out their own message, they couldn't possibly allow true thought to take place before stating their point OR open their ears and eyes enough to take in another.  But, it does seem that those backing the Creationist theory are far less likely to use any restraint or critical reading, let alone careful-reading.
