Come on fess up , you're cooked , after watching too many sitcoms , playing too many game shows , crying over too many crime dramas and singing along with too many "Idols" , you must admit it ! Your brains are fried ! Here's some simple tests,
-Do you categorize major events in your life by what was on that night ?
- Do you call in sick from work so you can go see Dr. Phill?
-Have you ever dropped out of a wedding or funeral because you had to get home to see Oprah ?
- Are your pre-schollers running around two states away because you're tearing up over "The View"
- Do you go into major heart failure if the power grid goes down?
-Answer yes to more than one of the questions above and you must seek help immediately!
i mainly watch the news channels, just to see who is the biggest liar. ha,ha. But the truth is i watch the news so it will make me depressed, that way i can write my sad love poems. HA, HA. LOL
Too cheap to pay for cable. Figure in 36 years we have saved $21,000 by not having pay TV. One of the kids pays for Netflicts and sometimes we watch current TV that way. I listen to a variety of radio news, Read a newspaper a bit and the patch for our neighborhood.
I used to love when the power went out as a kid. My adopted mom would light candles, we would sleep in the living room on the fold out couch and she would play me the piano to fall to sleep to. We usually lost the electricity due to violent storms so she was trying to keep me from getting spooked. I LOVED thunder storms, we were always so cozy tucked up where it was safe
To this day I love thunder and storms so long as I don't have to be out in them
A great time for hubs and I to play backgammon or texas hold 'em.
Nope on this side of the world TV is the worst piece of junk. After a full day of work and when chores are done just before going to sleep we put on a movie on the comp. That's it.
Strange, but when we added another five or six channels to what we'd previously had there was no improvement in what was worth watching. Junk! Trash! Senseless violence for its own sake. You know, there are more 'serial killers' in one month of TV viewing than there are in the whole history of the Western world over the past thousand years!
Still, we get what we deserve. If we ALL swtiched off then things might improve.
I often wonder why so many people have the t.v thing on 24/7, Go to the indian reservations , thier watching t..v. , in the airports , bars , and gas stations . my neieghbors window glows blue all night long .........Are we all fried from too much batman and robin?
I do watch TV, mostly even simple news are sensationalized, but it is up to us to know and discern
I tend to watch newsround, a kids news show, for my news (breakfast news as well but that is so fluffy for people just waking up, hardly counts as real news). I find that most of the time stories are told with as little reason for kids to get scared, upset, which means it doesn't upset me as much either
Good point Kirsten, we are blasted constantly by media in the name of worshipping consumer-ism ," Buy this buy that ", ......whatever you do , stay stressed about everything will work out if you just buy something ! No conspiracy there ......Not!
I tell you what, if I watch proper 'adult' news I get the idea that the world is coming to an end. The sky is falling and all that. When I look out my window instead, mostly the world looks like she is spinning along quite nicely. Kids playing, folks on their way to and from work, rain sometimes, sun sometimes, everything seems just fine. No end in sight.
What is funny to me is when we had the riots last year I had no idea it was happening since I didn't get to watch the news until the last day of the riots. It was only then that a neighbour mentioned the state of the high street with all the shops, it was shocking since without a TV to tell me what was going on I had no idea there was anything going on at all.
The shows themselves don't bother me. I don't really pay attention to them. What I can't stand is the commercials. I simply cant take it anymore. Companies are marketing their products towards cattle consumers, and sitting there on my couch I become very upset and afraid that I might be one of them. As soon as I see Flo from the Progressive commercials I feel like I've lost a significant chunk of IQ. These companies want to target our minds. The more brainless we are, the deeper into our wallets they can sink their fingers. It just disappoints me so much to see these businesses succeed. Ugh, I need to go take a shower.
I haven't seen a commercial in AGES. I record almost everything and either FF through the ad's or A-B erase them out of the track before watching properly. BBC is also good since they don't do ads. The only ads I really see these days are for movies where the sponsors main ad is a good indication the movie is about to start/go back into. They are almost always for booze tho! Baileys, Stella Artois, Gin, etc.
I have a television in the house but haven't switched it on for more than a year.
The cheapest way I can get unlimited broadband where I live is to subscribe to Sky TV, so I do. However, there is no rule that says I have to watch it.
The interesting thing is that when my daughters come to visit, they cannot be bothered to switch it on either.
I sometimes turn the TV on in the evenings but it's absolute rubbish. I generally end up turning it off very quickly afterwards. Although, I have to admit, as mindless garbage goes I will let Coronation Street wash over me. The cheapest way I can get broadband is through Talk Talk and the package includes a phone line, but I do not plug a phone into the socket because I hate the distraction-especially telesales calls, I don't even know what my land line number is.

Do we really need to watch the news regularly?I have found that the nightly news is mostly negative and believe we do not need to fill our subconscious with it ... events that make us feel helpless and fearful. I watch it only occassionally now and along with many things I do, for my health...

Does it seem to be unlawful? Is it possible that these Reality Stars don't know the full content that is being shown on telebision? Most of time whenever I had watched Reality Television it made me uncomfortable watching their personal lives - too much.

Do you think it is harmful to eat and watch TV at the same time? It's an old tale that eating while watching TV leads to over-eating and weight gain. Is that true for you? Why would you or wouldn't you watch TV while eating?

Do you allow your children to watch TV as they fall asleep?I've always preferred to fall asleep watching TV and now I allow my 5 year old daughter to fall asleep to the TV in her room. She falls asleep to the "Bedtime Show" on Sprout TV. Do any of you out there allow the same...

How much television do you watch?Try and have at least one day away from the TV, ideally longer. It is the greatest scientific indoctrination tool ever invented. Free your mind and turn it off. You have a mind of your own, please start to use it for yourself; “Believe nothing, no matter where you...
