Republicans have been claiming James Carville is nuts for years now. Are they right or is what James Carville said right? He is what he said:
“Ideologies aren't all that important. What's important is psychology. The Democratic constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do is lay out enough silage and they come running. That's why I became an operative working with Democrats. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd. Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don't have a clue as to political reality. What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want. The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn't have a clue than there were Republicans. Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you're smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That's why I'm a Democrat. I can make the Democratic voters think whatever I want them to.” ― James Carville
Where did he say this? I can only find it being repeated on every right-wing site and forum out there, can't find the source.
The fake quotation was no doubt made up by a Repuiblican. I've met James Carville and I don't believe for a minute that he said anything like that.
It was no doubt made up by George Bush... it's all his fault
Oh I have always though James was one of the best they had and the most dangerous operative in the media. The fact they are ignoring him is just an indication how far left they really are.
Think on this. He got the biggest liar ever to hit Washington elected twice.
The man is brilliant and if they lose in November they will rue not having heeded him.
Hi, AV, we are gong to have to substantiate this statement from Carville, it is highly uncharacteristic of a man that has been a long time supported of the Democratic party.
Of course, it goes without saying that the comment was utter bilge. I am a democrat and I certanly do not think that I am being led anywhere on the contrary from the perspective of the left, it is the GOP and its supporters that are living in la la land.
"Do we see sometimes us going overboard in our campaign, are there mistakes that are made, areas where there is no doubt that somebody could dispute how we are presenting things? You know, that happens in politics," Obama said, arguing that the "vigorous debate" helps better define each candidate's vision. The exchange was not aired on television but was posted online.
"President Obama says some of his campaign ads might "go overboard" or contain mistakes, but most of them simply highlight the differences between him and Gov. Romney"
http://www.cbsnews.com/8334-504803_162- … pageNum=10
SO the President has to lie, or "make mistakes" as he says to try and show a difference between him and Romney. He has to lie because he has nothing to run on, no successes. So he lies and they believe him, Carville is right.
You can google it, it is all over the internet. I believe he said it during a round table discussion on MSNBC, but I could be wrong.
AV,
Romney is the endless subject of gaffeter for the electorate. The late nite comedy circuit says that he (Romney) provides an endless source of comic material. If the right wants to replace Obama, you need a credible alternative, this guy is definitely not Ronald Reagan. What is odd is that most of his problems are not from interpretation from others but through his own words and actions that are indisputable.
AV, I will be watching this contest closely to see what path America will choose, a pre-New Deal 19th Century vision of American life or are we going to move forward into the 21st cerntury and beyond with its challenges.
Romney's message is not resonating the way he expected, he has less than 50 days to focus. If he screws up on the debates, its over......
Everything is oK here, may you find your way as pleasant.......
It's almost hilarious that someone from the party with Joe Biden as VP is trying to needle a Conservative about Romney making gaffes. Joe Biden makes a gaffe three times before breakfast.
Well, JS, It looks like Romney's Gaffes may well cost his ticket support and most probably the election, I do not think that Joe Biden has that handicap to deal with......
No because liberals are so lock step you will follow them no matter what.
That was the whole point Carville was trying to make. Thanks for verifying.
And I suppose that the rightwinger is an independent thinker, truly a contradiction in terms, good liuck with that! We will do your post mortem on November 7th, then you can play the Rush Limburger Monday morning quarterback routine and tell us all how the 'liberal media' doomed your dishrag of a candidate. We will all want to know how your reactionary friends screwed up, caa't wait
I wouldn't get too far ahead of myself....
and yeah you guys are so lock step you didn't even primary a man you were griping about.
Of course when the rest of your politicians are so yellow they are afraid they will be called racist for going up against him............
Which is of course why Hilary didn't do it....
Au contraire, Hillary and Bill did their best to win her the nomination.
Uh...
Neither party holds a primary when they hold the presidency...
Sure they do Cody. There was a Democratic Primary in our state that I voted in. Someone here from the Democratic Party actually challenged Barack. He lost of course.
It will be better when you have more experience. People run against incumbents all the time. From the same party. If they have the cajones.
So then they did primary him? What side are you taking here?
Either way, I highly doubt he had anything more than token support from local officials looking to stay in the good graces of the local voters.
Cody,
You never disappoint when you post, your lack of how our system works is amazing. There are always primaries on both sides. Did you forget that Obama almost lost West Virginia when a convict still in prison got 40% of the vote.
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/20 … v-primary/
No see AV you forget that they don't see this because NOBODY is supposed to disagree with or oppose Barack Obama on anything. Certainly they shouldn't run against him in an election particularly from the same party. It has become almost frightening.
He has become a cult figure in the Democrat Party.
You are great at embellishment.....you should have talk radio program lol.
How do we know he doesn't? JSChams could be Rush incognito just messing with us dumb libtards on Hub Pages.
Sadly no Mom but I do have a broadcasters license from the FCC. Where I live someone has to pass on before you find a microphone. I wouldn't do talk anyway, it's done to death on both sides.
I'm sure there are quite a few who would gladly oblige, should you determine that the microphone you'd like to take over belongs to one R. Limbaugh.
West Virginia...
And be honest, did this guy ever have a chance? I feel the funny part is how you think some token candidate refutes my argument.
Now please, will the conservatives come up with some ideas instead of just deflecting blame because they know that they are on the wrong side of just about every issue that this country faces.
It is you that needs to be honest. It scared the crap out of the entire Deocrat party to realize a prisoner in jail with no money behind him got 40% of the vote. Imagine what could have happened if he had cash and campaigned?
By the way, when you realize their is no right side to issues, the country might be able to function again. Hitler thought he was on the right side of issues, see where it got him. Radical Muslims think they are on the right side of issues, and the list can go on.
As much griping from the left there was the last four years about how Barack wasn't doing what they wanted I really thought someone might give him a run for his money....but anyone who stepped forth would immediately be branded racist and they can't handle that. Death of a career for a Liberal.
Again....West Virginia....they don't exactly embrace Barack Obama there.
Also, to think that somehow the differences in views regarding social issues we face right now are just a matter of opinion....eh
THAT is what scares me.
Are we though? Or is it that the GOP is just so wrong about every issue facing the country right now that there isn't much room for debate?
Cred,
I agree, Romney has bad debates, it is over.
No truer words were ever spoken . . . and I admire him for being so frank, for being unafraid to speak the truth . . . no doubt he was there in days gone more than 30 years past when hitting those union gates at shift change was a Dem candidates highest and best use . . . those days are gone, voters I pray are smarter, wiser, see the world beyond them now that will shape the lives of their children and gandchildren.
Well firstly a lot of dispute on whether he actually even said this but even if he did.
This is a guy who was just effectively fired by the Democrats you think he might have some reason to be upset and perhaps make a non factual statement?
But if we do want to go down this route then let's ask which group of supporters is more likely to be easily fooled.
The group with about half the college graduates than the Democrats have?
The group with about 1/8th of the economists that the Democrats have?
Conservatism is scientifically linked to lower IQ's an prejudice...
So which group is more easily fooled, the group with twice the number of higher educated individuals, with eight times the economic specialists (economics being the center point of politics) and with statistically higher IQ's and less prejudice or the other group?
No doubt this will offend people but there are the facts on a discussion point brought up by conservatives not on the basis of accurate research or experiment but on the basis of one potentially biased (or even wrongly attributed) statement.

Carville had his fifteen minutes of fame. No matter how desperate he gets, he will not be appealing enough for a comeback. He's a creepy man who needs to retreat to the shadowy corners of politics, leaking rumors that Hillary is going to run in 2016.
Hey AV.
It is beginning to look like this is a bogus quote. I am finding complaints everywhere from researchers that can't identify a source for this incredible quote. It doesn't even sound like James Carville and this type of bashing is not his "style."
Quill,
This quote from Carville is about 9-12 months old if not older. I first read it on Huffington post where they tore him a new one for saying it. Of course the right side blogs jumped all over it and it was silent on the left. Wolf Blittzer was one of the only TV pundents that mentioned it on air. The story was short lived but it was recycled the other day so I posted it
As for him bashing, I know you have a better memory than that. Just revisit the Clinton days, he did not get the nickname Ragin Cajun because he spoke well of everyone. He was a great attack dog for Clinton. Hell if I ran for office I would want that dude on my team.
One last thing, if this was a bogus story, do you not think Carville would have gone nuts over it if he did not say it. Would that not be all over the media? Would italso be true that if he said it the media would cover it up? Of course it would, media will push any story that makes the Republicans look bad and downplay stories that make Dems look bad.
I hear ya, AV. You spin a fine theory but at the moment we still have no evidence he actually said it. Let's all keep searching.
I love Carville! He's certainly been critical of Obama and other Dems from time to time, but I find it hard to believe that he said this.
It seems to be genuine:
James Carville quotes
“Ideologies aren't all that important. What's important is psychology.
http://thinkexist.com/quotation/ideolog … 21889.html
I cannot find the context of the quote though?
They don't want to see that man it's not Huffington Post.
It has to come from a left wing source or they won't look at it.
It is suspicious, I cannot find the original source at all. It seems to have originated on thinkexist.com and was uploaded by a "thisoneworks" on to that site.
I am going to have to call it BS!
I don't know if this will help, UW, but, here tis.
http://www.politicollision.com/story.ph … -%E2%80%9D
Carville said: "Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don’t have a clue as to political reality."
There is not even one non-rightwing website with that quote on it and it certainly isn't on any CNN link to Carville saying that on a Wolf Blitzer interview—which would be very big news if it was.
You diehards just want to believe it because your candidate is defective and you're all desperate for Obama Ammo.
Face it, this is all you've got left on a sinking ship . . .
I was simply passing on a link to help UW, Wizard. At least I gave you what you thought was a good place to use your little cartoon.
I was aware of that, LH and it was NOT meant as an accusatory post—I just needed a reference point.
UN,
Sorry Was sick yesterday. I first read about it on Huffington post and they were tearing him up for it. I could not find the link, guess they took it down. Here is a link to an article from Yahoo, a left leaning site.
http://voices.yahoo.com/democrat-james- … html?cat=9
This link atributes to a CNN interview with Wolf Blitzer
http://republicmainstreet.wordpress.com … -clueless/
Oh yeah......hee,hee!
They can say what they want about disgruntled. James Carville is a lot sharper than David Axelrod who only has racism as a tool.
Hilary runs you will see Carville back and see a master in action.
This still doesn't give a source. Think exist sometimes has good quotes, but a cross-reference is needed for substantiation.
I find Carville's remarks both funny and ironic. Funny in that he proved that creating a focus...."it's the economy, stupid" could defeat an incumbent President or so it seems. Ironic...in that the same mantra today seems to ring empty with the same folks who were inspired to vote for Bill Clinton in a far less and dire economic situation. In a sense then, this proves a point which basically affirms Carville's observation. At the same time, it also proves the point that many folks blindly vote the party line if it the candidate is in a coma. ~WB
Actually, it's not unprecedented for the sitting president not to be renominated for a second term.
It hasn't happened since 1880 something. But it has happened.
Trust me, if it was politically expedient to challenge Obama this year, Hill and Bill would have been all over it.
Hold on though, Chelsea Clinton's in the wings!
I understand your point, but I don't think that is necessarily relevant.
It's like when people say that Democrats were segregationists. Yes, it is true. However, you also have to remember that political parties evolve over time.
I would argue that while technically true, it doesn't really represent American politics right now.
Still waiting for a source that Carville actually said this...
Longhunter, followed your link, brought me here:
http://voices.yahoo.com/democrat-james- … 11113.html
Then at the bottom of that they source thinkexist, which brings it all back to being an unverified quote?
SOURCES: http://thinkexist.com/quotes/james_carville/
uploaded by user "thisoneworks" which appears to be the originating post.
Yep. It just quotes thinkexist. It doesn't give any other source.
If Carville ACTUALLY said this, it would be everywhere, liberal and conservative websites alike. O'Reilly also would've grabbed it.
Lack of substantiation hasn't stopped conservatives in the past from making false claims, so it's not surprising this forum was started without any actual evidence. It wasn't presented as an opinion on an issue, but an actual fact that Mr. Carville actually said what the forum starter claimed he said.
Hey there, Sooner. We all seem to agree that the quote lacks a source. However, I think your suggestion that the OP intended to mislead us is as unbelievable as the quote itself.
The originator believes the quote is accurate. I read his comments and I believe him. The chances are good that he is looking to verify the quote and he will get back to us when he does.
I am not, nor did I claim to ever believe the originator of the forum was intentionally misleading.
I simply claimed many conservatives continue to peddle false claims on a regular basis and this was just another example. They don't do their homework.
Conservatives don't give a lot of empirical evidence to support what they say. Cases in this are that tax cuts for the rich create jobs, or homosexuality is a choice.
It was a jab at a lack of homework before quoting, rather than saying the forum originator was attempting to mislead people and knowingly use a false quote.
Thank you, Sooner. I am grateful for your clarification.
The lies and deceit just goes on and on . . .
CLAY COUNTY (Florida) REPUBLICAN VOLUNTEER'S PHONE CALL TO SENIOR VOTERS - SHE LIES, LIES, LIES then says "pay attention to Fox News"
Listen to her entire pitch (about 90 seconds). It was picked up on the first person’s answering machine.
"Yall sound like yall are senior citizens, right? Yeah. You don't want Obama. You really don' want Obama. Because, he'll get rid of your Medicare. You might as well say goodbye to it."
"I don't know if you've done any research on Obama or not, but he is a Muslim... if he had his way, we'd be a socialistic country."
"Pay attention to Fox News."

I find this topic most disturbing as it is a reflection of the goals and aspirations of the American Right wing movement. There is no such thing as it being "fringe" as Trump, Carlson and many Republican Senators avoided direct answers or said that the Orbanz authoritarian regime in...
