Why Is Squidoo Suddenly Smashing Hubpages?

   I have been here at Hubpages for two years, I have always been aware of Squidoo but have never had an account there. Over the years we have seen the favour of both Hubpages and Squidoo fluctuate wildly with Google. After the big Panda update, both sites suffered heavily. It seemed that Hubpages seemed to recover better than Squidoo and you would often see Hubs out ranking Lens as the general rule.
   
   In the last month or so however i have noticed a massive change. Squidoo seem to be back on top of all the serps. I see Lens way higher than my Hubs, three months back my Hubs would have burried most of Squidoo's pages. For one recent Hub I wrote I am down on page six of Google and there are five Squidoo articles with similar content out ranking me! What has Squidoo done recently to gain favour with Google again and how are Hubpages going to match this? If the trend continues i may have to consider moving over to the dark side so to speak.

   I'm wondering if the Idle hub thing is the culprit here. Think of how many seasonal hubs have been put on Idle. Christmas is a lot of people's best time on Hubpages and when they get the most Amazon sales and also traffic views. Now imagine those same hubs have been considered Idle and are no longer indexed..... If you consider the number of hubbers that no longer monitor their accounts and are unaware of this Idle thing...

      I don't think so. None of my Hubs are idle and yet Squidoo is still outranking a lot of them, something that would not have happened a few months back.

      Are you aware that Squidoo has had a feature that works just like the Idle feature for several years already?

   Andy, I would think about writing in a number of places anyway. Google is so unpredictable they can hit you at anytime and on any site. I'll still write at HP, I've also got a lot of other work on at the moment, but I'm definitely going to put lots of eggs in different baskets.
   
   I think the major problem with HP is what it's been for so long, real editors need to approve the first few hubs to dump the spammers and spinners. I've been writing on Wizzley and have already made a good few Amazon sales, more than I've made here with fewer articles. I just think the searchers trust other sites more than they do HP. Hopefully, HP will manage to rid the site of poor quality and spun articles, and that the searchers will once again trust HP.

      That's the hope I suppose. I must confess I have ignored the advice I've heard again and again about not putting all my eggs into one basket. I do have a few other sites I write on but they make up about 10% of my writing income. The hits that have happened in the past month have really hurt and at a time of year I was expecting a massive boom. So wish I had spread my work on a few other sites. Oh well, you live and learn.

         I ignored that advice, too. I got hit just before Halloween and STILL left the Halloween hubs here, I kept thinking it's too late to move them. Now, I'm writing those Xmas hubs on other sites and already seeing the results. If you have hubs that would normally do well at Xmas, move them NOW. Don't lose anymore income, Andy.
         
         Within thirty six hours you can have them on a site where they are accumulating income! You can still write here, just try starting new subs. My main account is dead in the water, I've moved hubs- they're earning!
         
         I wont desert HP, but I want to make some money, too.

            My account isn't dead as such, has just had about a 50% drop, it's still doing Ok. May have to look into other sites though to spread my future work out a little bit.
