Ironically today, the day before Independance day, I picked up an 100 year old leather bound autograph book at a boutique/collectible type thrift store. I am convinced it is the real deal due to  the ink,  the style of writing, and the age and condition of the leather and pages. On one page, instead of the autograph being on the actual page, its on what looks like a cut out piece of paper that says United states sentate memorandum, then the signature under neath. In the upper righ hand corner of each page it lists the state the sigs are from. Most of the signatures say their state and the date signed.

It has autographs from senetors from each state as well as the secretary of state, all from 1909.

I know nothing about collecting and want to find out what this kind of thing is worth.. Do you know of any websites for collectors where I could find out.

Any guesses at what something like this might go for??

    I appreciate any help..

    Thanks and happy 4th

    Awesome find!!!!

I'd contact the United States Capitol Historical Society.

They must work with reputable appraisers and who knows? Perhaps they'd even like to make an offer:

Also, I'm not sure how common something like your find is (proabbly many copies have been destroyed, lost, etc.)

You can have items appraised at Christie's and Sotheby's, too. If it's a really hot item, it'd be worth it to contract out a reputable auction and appraisal company that can locate great buyers.

I would have to agree with girly.  Interestingly though, 1909 happens to be the year when a very expensive (nowadays) penny was minted.  And I do know something about numismatics...

I've gone through the book more and I'm convinced it was owned by Norris Brown the senetor of Nebraska at the time. His name is on the front page of the book. His sig on the page for neb. Each page has the state written at the top and the handwriting matches the first page with his name.  I looked him up. he fathered the 16th admendment. I am soo excited about this find Ive never paid much attention to collectibles. Cant wait for monday when I can start making some phone calls. Thanks for the links!!

you might also see about contacting a show called Antiques Roadshow...is usually on PBS - if anybody can authenticate it, it would be them. They would also tell you the value smile
