would you bring them to gun & knife show just because they get into it for free?
I keep hearing a commercial which advertises "under 12 for free".

Kids are often free for expos.  I see no particular reason they should not be allowed to go to a weapon show.

Listeng to this commercial makes it sound like a fair or carnival, not a gun show. I would not want my kids (if I had any) to go to any 'gun' show.

I guess it depends on your own attitude to guns. If you are going to attend the gun and knife show anyway, then you want your kids to know how to use them safely. If the show is advertising that kids go free, they probably have some events set up especially for kids.

On the other hand if you are anti-guns yourself, then you wouldn't want your kids to think they are normal and so would not take them to the show.

Exactly.  In a household that has guns it is no more inherently dangerous sounding than a car show or a carpentry show.  It isn't like they will be live-firing in the exhibit hall.

Do not be too sure. They are probably just trying to sell the guns and knives - not teach you how to use them safely and properly.

I am quite sure, because shooting your customers is bad for business.

Guns have a place in history and are fascinating. Why would you not bring a child to a gun show? Like they themselves are not fascinated with guns which the cowboys, Daniel Boone, the Patriots in the Revolution and the military men of World Wars I / II used?  Just tell them the truth that we should never need to use a gun and that they are dangerous and should never be pointed at any one ever. Also explain that nowadays we have a civilized society and there is no need for guns anymore.

That is the truth. We just have to get that point through to the people who do use them and kill.

I have never touched a gun in my life and probably never will, but I understand guns are part of some people's culture and not a dirty secret like porn or drugs.  So for them taking a child to a gun show is totally normal.

Given that gun ownership is a right in the US I would rather have kids be educated about guns than giving them the allure of being an adults-only secret.  If guns are regarded basically the same as cars or power-tools, we might get to a better place as a nation than the gridlock of the entrenched no guns/free guns debate.
