Hi Hubbers,
I'd like some help with passing the Quality Assessment Process. Will you please give feedback on my Hub Disjointed: The Racist Nature of Spike Lee Films. What can I do to improve? Thanks!
Same advice applies that you were given on your earlier thread. No point in asking for help until you put that advice to good use.
Thank you for your sobering and poignant response. I seek to implement those strategies within my future writings.
But I must ask....Is it only because my Hub lacks enough words or pictures that it ought to be unfeatured? My other works offer fewer words and have no pictures. What's the difference?
Unfortunately the QAP process is not always consistent when it comes to articles that are on the borderline. I think your hubs are right on the edge of passing, which is why some of them do pass sometimes, but others don't. Like I mentioned before, I think just adding a couple of relevant photos and fleshing out the text a little more (also, adding subheadings to different sections) will make them pass consistently. Best of luck.
All of your hubs have the same problem: too short, personal opinion-based, no additional media. Flesh them out and they will probably be featured. Non-US readers will probably not understand what is significant about the portmanteau "Chiraq" and that alone could provide you with some material that will give the piece more meat. Your hubs have a lot of interesting ideas so it shouldn't be too hard to expand them. You could also include a youtube clip of the movie trailer.
I appreciate your straight-forward approach and your hints to use the portmanteau "Chiraq" in a better way. Thank you for your close attention to detail.
The Hub is very well-written with a great approach in terms of how to examine Lee's work. I just think maybe it needs more details, specifically in terms of "why". Why is Lee's work racist or race-baiting, why is it divisive (not saying you are saying this, but it's an option that I think is relevant). Maybe consider some counter-points and even criticize them.
Here is a counter-point to saying Do the Right Thing could be racist; at the end, he actually implies all racial violence is wrong, no matter who is doing it or where it comes from and that all are responsible for it (in fact, everyone in the movie is, indeed, racist); you could present that argument and counter it. Just throwing out some ideas here that are coming to me at the moment. Or you could look at Bamboozled and talk about how he looks at the gangsters and the exploiters and the problems with both but add your own "but" to argue with that stance.
But maybe zero in on Chiraq, which certainly does seem on its face to be divisive and inflammatory, with more detail as to why that is that it is divisive and inflammatory; specifics and the "why".
When I say "specifics", one of the things I'm thinking of is specific scenes, among other things.
Thank you for your insightful and comprehensive response. You're right. The reasoning is what would make this Hub truly have depth and a fuller perspective.
