      On the up side Charlie Hebdo won't have to fear terrorist reprisal for perceived poor taste like it did with the Mohammed cartoons.  Attempts at humor sometimes miss their mark. I'm certain those at the magazine do care about human tragedy.

            To be perfectly honest I was much more offended with the image of Best Buy selling cases of water for $50 and $30 respectively. A magazine known for shock is doing what comes naturally. Gauging people in need shouldn't. I hope America, come Christmas, remembers Best Buy's attitude toward those in Texas.

               I guess in these incidences, it doesn't have to be one or the other... it is not a competition.
               Both can be offensive on different levels...
               
               I guess in my own case, being a Christian, for someone to use God to mock some group just makes it over the top especially for someone or group that are non-believers...(atheist). It is ironic...
               
               It is like many atheists who I engaged in conversation. At the first sign of trouble, they blame God... who they don't believe exists...Huh?

                        Not to go all religiously philosophical on an entertainment and media thread; you choose to be offended and you make the conscious decision to choose to search for reasons to validate this choice. It is just as easy to choose a different course of action.

                           I guess you are right. By giving attention to this stuff, it actually perpetuates it.
                           In fact, very few people read that stuff anyway...i never heard of them until the terror attack a few years ago.

                              One thing I've always admired about the American people is our ability to find humor in things many would find taboo, our ability to laugh at ourselves and our ability to find the humor others see where we initially didn't see it.
                              
                              Not saying there is anything humorous in callous disregard for human suffering but I think we all find ourselves, from time to time, chuckling at moments where we realize it can be seen as callous and cold from another angle. If I were paid to create humor from tragedy I might do that quite a bit more often.

               But I also found that it occurred in one store, for one day only, and, if we believe Best Buy's statement, it was a mistake that was quickly corrected:
               
               
               
               I believe their explanation that it was not a company decision. I can easily see one dumbass manager or employee beaming with pride at their entrepreneurial spirit. I'm betting that one store has a new management slot or two open now.
               
               So, based on my past positive experiences with my local Best Buy, I will be thinoking of them again this Christmas too.

                  I don't appreciate price gouging. . One does wonder, without national attention, how long that display would have been up and what corporate response would have been if it had all remained out of the public eye.

                        I agree, but if you notice they explained the $49 price tag. I don't think that explanation included the $29 price tag which is,, in my mind, also gouging.

   It is sad how some people just can't take a break from their politics...
   In a tragedy like this, what make this paper think this cartoon is funny or appropriate?
   It this is the thinking of editors working at this paper, they are in worst shape than people of Houston...spiritually soeaking...

      During Katrina I remember seeing where it was God's vengeance for New Orleans acceptance of gays.  And I see where a Florida college professor has been fired for saying Texans deserved Harvey for supporting Trump (that the Houston area went Clinton doesn't seem to matter, but then stupidity knows no bounds).
      
      Can't really see that one is any worse than the other - there are an awful lot of people that will cackle over the pain of someone they disagree with.  On the other hand, we see millions pulling together to help those they disagree with - when disaster strikes philosophy and hate goes out the window for most of us.

      Let them come forward.
      I am curious to know.
      Is there anything out of bounds?
      I am all for free speech but there is also self constraint and human decency.
      It is not all and everything goes...
      Even our free speech has limits. You can't yell fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire...

         Yes, it is for people who believe no topic is sacred and that is how it should be.  It has a small readership generally in France.   
         
         People can create and consume whatever words and pictures they want to.  I agree with that even though it means many objectionable and obscene materials are circulated.  Because there are things I read and right that other people would object to--and they don't get to control me any more than I get to control them.
