Do you think the Militray will be reduced by the new administration?
We might experience a trim UP, meaning a smarter, more efficient military. I doubt we'll be reduced in a large sense, due to world conditions and the legacy from the Bush years. His stirring of the pot of hate seeemed to heat up some already hot areas. We are spread very thin, and I believe Obama will be hesitant to increase our military by command, but most likely will by incentives.
I am in favor and agreement with our First Lady's intent to increase benefits to the military families, such as housing, medical aid, education, etc.
I believe Obama, is just strong enough and smart enough to do whatever it takes to protect our country. We must remember, that our borders being secure would provide a larger amount of security, something the Bush administration and other presidents have sorely neglected. Also, Obama is comitted to calming areas of discontent, which will help some.
We are surround by "boiling" waters, and it just makes sense to turn down the temperature, as well as secure our own country to a higher degree. Mexico, for example, must become a safer neighbor for the US.
I definitely feel that the military's presence can be reduced by the current administration, but only in certain areas of the world. The number of people employed by the military will most likely increase.
I'll avoid jumping into the tired old politics of blaming previous presidents for discontent stirred up by terrorists, I think you may see a return to the draft and if so the conditions for the military will go even further downhill in a big hurry on the back of the budget deficit. All the talk of doing more to support troops and their families will dry up and the talk of needing to do more for less will grow..
personally what I see is not so much a reduction as a refusal to spend money on new and old equipment, citing such things as America has no business fighting wars around the world.
most likely we will end up with plenty of men state side training with card board boxes and brooms like pre world war two... becuase the funds wont be there to use equipment in training that will be needed for real deployments.
okay so it might be pushing it to use brooms and boxes that will be needed for base cleanups.
