    Unintended Pregnancy: Why Should A Man Undergo Male Sterilization Instead Of His Wife?

    How Does Tubal Ligation Compare To Vasectomy In Your Area?

    Because it is easier for a man and does not include major surgery. Snip, snip smile

    Tubal ligation requires major surgery.  There are many reasons why it might not be a good idea.  A vasectomy is fairly minor, and reversible.

    1) If she gets pregnant after that, uh oh!
    2) He can screw around without any paternity suits. Woo hoo!

    As I understand it, vasectomy is relatively simple and reversible. Tubal ligation is neither of these.

    A vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure that permanently ends fertility in men.Advantages

            * Highly effective, but not 100%
            * Permanent
            * Has no systemic side effects
            * Does not interfere with intercourse
            * Easy to use
            * Less surgical risk/expense than female sterilization

    Disadvantages

            * Chance of regret
            * Risks and side effects of minor surgery
            * Delayed effectiveness
            * No protection from STIs/HIV

    Female sterilization is a major surgical procedure where the fallopian tubes, which carry the egg from the ovary to the uterus, are blocked (tied and cut, cauterized, or interrupted by ring or clip.) Sterilization ends fertility permanently (only 2% failure at 10 years).
    Advantages

            * Highly and immediately effective
            * Permanent
            * Has no systemic side effects
            * Does not interfere with intercourse
            * Easy to use
            * Has beneficial non-contraceptive effects (partial protection from ovarian cancer and PID)

    Disadvantages

            * Chance of regret
            * Surgical procedure (associated discomfort)
            * No protection from STIs/HIV
            * In rare case where the operation fails and the woman becomes pregnant, there is a high chance that it will be ectopic
    If you compare the two, you can see why. One is a minor surgery, one is a major surgery. One shows  risks and side effects of minor surgery, one shows Surgical procedure with associated discomfort. And one shows a risk on ectopic pregnancy!
    That is why. Sterilization is safer and less painful with a faster healing time.

    I must let danmayerisgod know that a Tuballigation is in fact reversible. My sister has had one child since her reversal and is due to deliver her second next month! It has a 72% success rate. She has been blessed to fall into that 72% twice!

    Yes the vasectomy is fairly simple compared to the TL, but a man should only do it if he is also sure he does not want more children...what if something happens to the marriage?  Will he still be happy not having more kids.  The same goes for the woman.  My aunt did TL because her husband didn't want anymore kids.  They had 1, he had others fr previous marriage.  Fast FWD upteen years and he has a baby with somone else while she happens to be going through hysterectomy....hmmm...sure made me think.
