Am I confused or are the children in "Slumdog Millionaire" movie kinda of getting the once over?
These kids made red carpet appearances and were in an Oscar winning picture. Now I haven't seen the movie for lack of interest, but now I won't watch because of the treatment of these children. As a filmmaker myself I could never understand how talent could be treated in this way.
Yes and no.
On the one hand, you have children who did such a beautiful job acting and then had to return to the very slums the movie centered on. They continue to live in poverty; one boy recently became totally homeless when the ramshackle dwelling he and his family stayed in was bulldozed.
On the other hand, you have children who have had a once in a lifetime opportunity which most of these poor children would never have received. The reason they aren't receiving payment NOW is not to punish the children but to protect them. For many child stars even in Hollywood, their parents ate the estate before the child came of age. The producers in this case were trying to avoid that by making the money available only in a protected trust when the child reaches adulthood.
I don't think there is a right answer here. It's a complicated situation, but my understanding, the producer (I believe) has stepped in, in the case where the boy is now homeless. I tend toward alleviating the poverty now by freeing up their pay.
It was an excellent movie, by the way. I do recommend it.
I saw the movie not worth an Oscar.
I would say the children have been exploited rather than acted.
hi ,
i saw the movie, was worth seeing ,but as of now i heard recently that both Azhar and Rubina have been given a house to live in .thanx to those who bought these childern to limelight, but many children like these are still homeless and living in slums.
Motion picture sucked. BIG TIME! Children as exploited (probably more so) by American so-called FRIENDS than in their own country! Sad but true. Somebody sure as Hell made a mountain of money. Peace.

How do you feel about the millionaire tax that's going to be proposed by Los Angeles Countysupervisors w/the intention of reducing, if not alleviating the homeless situation? Do you ethically believe that there SHOULD be millionaire taxes in order to alleviate homelessness &...
