Would you buy a professional, customized scrapbook for yourself or as a gift for someone?
My girlfriend and I wanted to start our own business where we sell professionally made scrapbooks to people who want those treasured moments as a keepsake but simply do not have the time to invest in such a tedious task. The scrapbook would be perfect as a gift for the holidays or for just whenever one feels like buying one. The customers would send their pics and items to be used and we would simply do the building (as well as hunting down the other supplies needed to make the scrapbook unique). So, is this a good idea? Money aside, would you buy one?
I have also considered doing this for a business. I love to scrapbook and thought that it would be a fun way to earn extra money. I have found though, that many people who want a scrapbook also want to do it themselves. I believe a better alternative is to sell scrapbook kits. When I was begining in scrapbooking I would have been more than willing to purchase a predesigned page set up with all the necessary parts and instructions on how to use the supplies included.
I think kits would be a wonderful idea! Such as for a baby shower gift or birthdays. I would purchase them. I love doing the work myself but sometimes don't have the time to stand there going through all the many wonderful things there are for scrapbooks. It is also a good way for a beginner to see everything that can be done with this wonderful hobby. Who knows, you may begin your own designer business!
You know, a year ago I might have. But I went to one of the scrapbook expos last spring and learned so much that I decided to teach myself. I have two daughters and the older one and I worked together to make a scrapbook for her sister for her and her husband's 5th wedding anniversary. This was so very much fun! Maybe more teachers of scrapbooking techniques would be helpful.
Yeah, perhaps I could start a website that has video tutorials or something that teaches scrapbooking. Hmm...i dont know. All good answers though. Thanks for all the replies!
Yes, you can sell custom made scrapbooks. I've sold several in the past. You just need to be careful that you charge enough to make it worth your while. I've been told that some people charge a dollar per page.
Yes I would, But has To Be Something That Worth Your Heart & Mind....
This is a great idea! That is just what I did. I joined Heritage Makers and became a publishing consultant. I teach and inspire others to write their stories along with their photos in beautiful, professionall printed books.
Heritage Makers is very new and very unique. You can read alot more about the company and the opportunities at http://www.creatingstories.com and http://www.scrapbooking-plus-stories.com
I am so happy that I joined, not only is it a great homebased business that we get 'paycheques from the heart' but we also meet and learn about some amazing people and their stories.

There is definitely a market. I sell a ton of them! Premade albums are huge, too. Go for it!
