   My cat was about to turn 17 and died yesterday. I had been feeding him Fancy Feast in the small...
   
   cans but noticed he needed more, so I saw the western family 5.5 oz cans. Thought I would try them out within two weeks he died. He died in my arms last night and vomited after eating the food. Did it kill him? It was the Either the Beef Dinner or Beef and Liver Dinner.

   It would be impossible to say without taking him to a vet to determine the cause of death.  Although cats can live more than 17 years (I had one that died at 21 years) your cat was considered old.  Sometimes changing a cat's diet, especially if he is an elderly cat, can give him stomach problems, but it can be something totally unrelated to his diet.
   
   My deepest sympathies for your loss.

   Well I had been feeding him Purina Cat chow for 16 years and he had a really big stomache and urinated a lot. I read that felines can get diabetes and after watching him I noticed he could not chew the dry food. He would swallow the dry food whole. So I switched him to a small can of Fancy Feast a day...but he was still hungry. but was doing great two weeks ago and had lost his belly and quit drinking as much water and urinating...but became very bony looking...more like other older cats I saw. I thought that losing his big stomache that seemed to make him uncomfortable would be helpful and 2 weeks ago he actually chased and caught a small lizard...couldn't believe it. But he let it go. Then I switched him to this diet...I knew something was wrong with him and was in an out of the house the whole day. Something told me I need to go to him and when I did he was waiting for me. I wrapped in a blanket and held him, after about 1 hour he made a final stretch and gasp...his tongue had been hanging out all day too..then he died in my arms. Buried him today...pretty sad day for me. It just seemed like he was poisoned. Most animals have a heart attach and die, or run away. He waited for me all day sick, vomiting, and looking at me and anytime I put my hand on him he purred as hard as he could....I thought the purring was actually making it hard for him to breath.

   That was incredibly sad, I am sorry you lost your pet.
   
   17 years is very old for a cat, and at that age it is to be expected that death can be just around the corner. You cant tell what it was which caused its death so try not to think about anything you did which could possibly have caused a problem, and concentrate on how happy your cat was with you as an owner.
   
   It sounds like you took great care of you cat - for it to reach that ripe old age you must have!

   I'm an animal lover as well and I can understand your feelings. When a pet or anyone we love suddenly dies, I think it's a very human reaction to search your heart and wonder if you could have done more or if we shouldn't have done such n' such.  Here's what I have learned from this.
   
   No one could have loved your dear cat more than you did. You know in your heart that you loved him and he knew you loved him. That's the most important thing. You loved each other and love doesn't die when this temporary shell dies.  I know because I've experienced countless times having my loved ones, both human and pets, reveal to me in some way that they were all right. I then knew that I would see them again.
   
   There is a verse in the Bible in the book of Ecclesiastes that says, "To everything there is a season..." and one of those is "a time to die". It was your beloved cats time and you will see him again some day.

   I would say talk to a vet. But, 17 is a old for a cat. So, it isn't a surprise that this may have been just old age. I just had a cat who was 17 die last week. I am very sad, so I understand your hurt. But, I also know she was very old and had a good long life. Celebrate your cat's life and the wonderful things he brought to your life.

   I am sorry for your loss.
   
   My cat is 14 yo.  She started having digestive problems after she had been on a Fancy Feast diet for several months.  I didn't give it to her everyday because she had Iams dry cat food.  This would be a treat for her. My cat was vomiting this up (more during this past week) and having problems with her stools.  No she is having a lot of problems breathing....
   
   I find it odd that I thought the same thing about Fancy feast.  I fed her mostly the grilled seafood.
