   Most times, if not all, fast food is pre-prepared and just served as and when, whereas in high end restaurants need preparation as and when the orders come in, and time is needed to prepare.

   Because you go into a top restaurant to be served with a good meal, made from good quality ingrediants that someone has taken time to prepare and cook.  You go into a fast food restaurant to consume fat, salt, and reclaimed low grade meat products that no one gives a monkeys about.  I heard it said once of sausages and burgers that you must ensure they are properly cooked to destroy the bacteria from the faecal matter that they surely contain.

   I suppose if you want restaurant food to taste like fast food it could be.
   However if on the other hand, like me you actually enjoy eating real food cooked properly by a chef instead of a spotty herbert wearing a funny hat. And you like to sit at a table in good company with a glass of wine rather than a cardboard cup full of ice cubes and syrup then you must appriciate these things take time.
   It's why we go out for the evening to dine, rather than grab a burger on the way to the movies !
   
   It's also a pleasure when a waiter brings you a menu and wine list rather than asking . "You Want Fries With That ?"

   There are restaurants that offer online ordering - that is, if you want to pick it up.  You can also try calling ahead.
   
   If you are eating in, tell the waiter that you have a limited time, half an hour, 45 minutes or whatever.  Ask what is quick on the menu and have the check brought to the table with your meal.  If you do this, you will be surprised at how quickly you can be in and out.

   People generally go to high end restaurants when they have time to sit and enjoy a meal at a slower pace. Some Japanese restaurants do offer Quickly prepared meals that are also very entertaining!
