When starting a business, why don't owners put aside any more for marketing?
Marketing and Sales are the backbone of most companies. If an owner doesn't put aside some cash for marketing research, there is a good chance they will sink. All of this of course depends on what field of business they're in.
A lot of new businesses don't invest or consider marketing as a vitality of their business. They usually assume that the fact they offering a product will be enough to bring consumers in and they forget that if the consumer doesn't know the product exist they won’t come. Unfortunately new businesses usually don’t see the point of marketing until they are forced to find ways to increase profits in order to stay in business.
The reality of a business start-up is much different than perception. Most new businesses open on a very tight and limited budget. You have to prioritize and marketing is usually lower on the list. While this may seem short sighted and perhaps even foolish, to some, it is quite simply a matter of finances or in this case the lack of them. As a new business owner, with limited capital, you almost always have fewer choices than you would like. A full scale marketing campaign is a dream of most but the truth is a few ads in the local paper or a few radio spots is the best that most can manage in the beginning.
