How far would you go to save your job?
If your top manger said you were not following methods and was trying to fire you, would you admit to his lie to save your job or stand firm and be fired for his lie saying you were dishonest?
It sounds like you are saying the top manager is stating the employee was not following methods, then saying the employee was dishonest. It's not really clear what you mean. If the Manager stated the employee was not following methods and the employee disagreed, which led to the Manager stating the employee was lying, the employee needs to ask for documented proof or examples of how s/he was not following methods.
If the employee is just being accused of being dishonest, s/he needs to let that roll of her/his back rather than lose the job. People get accused of all kinds of things, but if the employee is known as a person of integrity by other employees, and by her/his own conscience, stand firm. It's not worth making mountains out of molehills because jobs are hard to find, hard to keep in this economy, and there will be issues everywhere.
The Lord will fight for His kids. I've experienced it.
If you didn't do anything wrong I would not admit to anything that wasn't true. If I had a family to support and needed another job first and that would save it to admit to something you didn't even do, then maybe some people might have to as they find another job, once they did they should tell him to go you know where. Your integrity is most important and so is your family....so you have to make sure both are protected. If you didn't have to worry about immediate money, it wouldn't even be a thought. The manager will do it again, I would first go over his head and talk to someone above him but if you didn't get anywhere, it's only a matter of time you have to get out of there.
I would say that I did not agree to his assessment. I would ask in writing for a written description of the things that I did not do right. I would ask for the company's written policy on job performance evaluations and for a written statement of due process. Then I would ask for a performance improvement plan to be provided. I would agree to the improvement plan until I no longer needed the job.

Do you think a mistake on the first day should lead to you being fired? If it was your first day on the job and you had a slip of the tongue, do you think you'd understand your boss' need to fire you? A newsreader was recently fired for dropping the f-bomb on the air and it was his first day. Do you...
