It's not racial prejudice if their English isn't up to scratch - which is not the case with all EFL writers as English speakers are at fault almost as often.

We the readers are not always to know which nationality the writers are and if we read something we feel has been poorly written, is that prejudiced?

No, it doesn't matter where the writer is from, it's just that it's difficult to read - pure and simple.

Thank you Nick, I have rated your answer best. And I am going to quote you in a book, I am writing. I am responding after ages only because while researching for my work I had to go through this thread.

I've come across so many alleged English First Language writers who cannot put two words together without making a mess of it that it's not funny.

It seems, and I'm sticking my neck out now, that especially Brits and Americans just assume that their language useage is beyond reproach, when, in actual fact, and one can make a study of this, it is often they who are unable to write coherently.

I say this as a result of my observations over several years of internet exposure. Mark me down if you must.

Not all ESL writers are poor writers. But yes there are some who really struggle in putting across their ideas in a clear and concise manner. I will agree that the racial prejudice do steps in upto some extent just because that's the first thing that comes to mind when we read a poorly written essay. There are native speakers who still struggle to write clearly and at the same time there are also non-native speakers who write very well. And vice versa. But yes, a lot of ESL writers do need help with editing and proofreading their essays. And ESL editing services are doing really well. http://paperproofreader.com/esl-editing-services/
