   We are "stockpiling" for a three month supply: drinking water, plumbing water (so we can flush...
   
   toilets), bathing water, canned meats, crackers, flour, sugar, charcoal, matches, wind-up flashlights, toiletries, etc.  Is anyone else preparing for disaster?

   Make sure you stock your water in dark containers, to prevent light from reaching it.  Keep that funk from growing in previously used containers.
   
   I'm not stockpiling some things, but I'm well prepared in other areas. 
   
   I do have a 'GO' or 'GOD' bag always in my car though.

   OMG! Do you really think it will make any difference if you have water? The dead don't drink. Go buy a bottle of bourbon and get over yourself.

   what are you preparing for? if your preparing for a disaster flushing toilets should be the least of your worries and water will go bad quite fast. I'm always prepared for short term problems but long term is something that unless you live in an isolated area it's almost impossible to prepare for.

   we live in a katrina stricken area -- and simple precautions could've helped this community a lot a few years back.
   
   as far as the toilet water - we have a septic tank, and are reserving rainwater for this - you can add antialgae/bacteria agents to the water to keep it "safe" for the reservoir.
   
   Also - I think it's good simply to be prepared for the "unexpected".  With floods, earthquakes, & even the gulf spill -- which affected the area for a season - seems like we're "recovered" now, though.l
