    Yes it is important to talk to you'r friend about his/hers problems and if you can, try to solve it or help him/her in any way in that siuation.

    Providing you exercise discretion in delivery, yes take the friend aside and tell them your concerned about what you see in them, and would like to help them if allowed. BE a good listener first to understand their problem better, then offer your 2 cents.
