What should I expect my 16 month old grandson be able to accomplish at this stage?

Such as walking, talking, understanding, following directions, etc.

Most of what you said is true.

Under understanding and talking you want to do a call a response with him when it comes to learning numbers.

Make it fun.  Use flash cards.  When you say the number one.  point to it on the card so he can say it also.

Do the same for the alphabets.

When he is being washed and dressed name body parts and have him repeat it.  He will learn his left and right this way, because it will be told to him every day while he is being washed and dressed.

Make it fun.  Make up a song.

I know it may sound crazy, but that is how I taught my nieces, nephews and son.  I started this over twenty years ago.  My son is seven years old.

Also he can learn his basic colors.  Do it once daily.  Again, make it fun.

    I hope this helped.

I would say that your grandson should have you wrapped around his little finger by now.  Your heart should be melting everytime you get to be with him......but that probably happened not long after he was born.

If memory serves me well, it seems that they was doing all of those things by that age.  It seemed like 12 months was when everything started to happen.

Thanks CMerritt and Ms Wright.  Yep, C, you are certainly right about his control issues, lol.  It did seem he started blossoming by 12, but I was surprised when his parents told him to go throw something away and, at 16 months, went from the living room to the kitchen to where the trash compactor was, waited for someone to open up the door then threw the garbage in.  Seems pretty complex for 16 months to me but that was what, 62 years ago?

Ms Wright, good suggestions, I will pass them on to my step-daughter and her husband.
