Garlic, onions, cheese= stinky breath. Check out more first date tips below. Also depends on if you are accident prone or not, I would avoid messy, saucy foods as well.

Lobster, too much investment...no seriously - I agree with what sturner1 said.

Spicy food might not be a good idea either if you don't know whether he / she will appreciate that. Any weird foreign cuisine should be skipped as well, choose something good and exciting but not to adventurous, if you know see what I mean. You can always try something new later on in the relationship.

Garlic, boiled egg and onions, smelly breath and fart food is never a good idea on first dates.

I would definitely avoid Lobster, Crabs, and red pasta sauce.  All three are a recipe for a messy dinner.  And if you know what foods give you gas avoid that as well!

I would say eat whatever you want.  Even if it is messy, you can have fun and lighten the mood.  I agree with avoiding foods that might upset your stomach.

Pasta with long noodles...like spaghetti and fettuccini can be messy to eat, and may not be something you would want to mess with on a first date. Also, as almost everyone else has said, garlic and onions should be avoided if you want a good night kiss on that first date!! smile

I would avoid soups...they sound cheap and boring as first date.

Any main dish will be fine as long as it is tasty and nice.

Nice dessert (tiramisu, affogato etc) is a must to end up with.

    buon appetito

Onion rings because the onion slides out during the bite, and you will smell like onion if a kiss is coming your way.  Not too hot.

I don't know about food, but no red roses. They make a man's eye wander

You should eat something you both can enjoy. Like pizza, steak, soup, sandwhiches, something enjoyed by the majority of people, or something enjoyed by the two of you. Something that wont make you sick and always remember breath mints!!!

Avoid nothing.  Make certain that the other knows who you are and what you are about.  That means you pull no punches and just enjoy your time.  If you were a couple you would not avoid a food, so don't do it now.

On the other hand, if you are hooking up then eat nothing  and drink liberally.  Eat afterward anything you want.

Onions, Garlics, Cheese, Oreoes, Nuts, Meat(make sure you clean your teeth with a toothpick afterward), Egg, Spices; peppers, tobacco.. and avoid food with sauces, anything juicy or has a strong smell. Also things that do not make you fart wink  say all sorts of beans.
Oh and never have an apple or pear after eating a meal that involves food in the grain category; rice, pasta..etc
Also NO ginger. It kills off germs and bacteria. Causing you to fart or burp.
After all this, of course go to the washroom and spray some perfume big_smile

None except for possibly chitterlings, have you ever seen those things, Yuck.

Surely you have asked about prefered cuisine before you picked a restaurant. If not pick one that is middle of the road offering well prepared food and pleasant atmosphere. A good bottle of wine with the meal isn't a bad idea in my opinion. See if you can stand each other sober and go from there. Sry, I disagree with the straight alcohol dinner for a first date theory. that's reserved for hook ups and one night stands and different rules apply, lol.

Eat the good food, enjoy a bit of bread and real butter and chew on some fresh parsley. Cleans your palate and your breath. She'll be ready to enjoy that special dessert.

A sandwich that has the stuff inside dropping on your plate isn't such a great idea..and chicken like drum sticks, don't think that's a great idea either.. you can't really enjoy your meal when  you're uncomfortable.

Chinese food (ordered-in) No girl would think it would be romantic, and now she knows what type of guy you are...

And you should not worry if you are a girl because if a guy is a gentlemen should pay for taking you out .

Beans and after breath aroma foods are a consideration. Ordering an appetizer of sliced raw onions might be a bit of a put off. Also, stay away from large food portions like huge plates of pasta, etc. Try to have a meal that is easily managed while you concentrate on the conversation and getting to know one another. The pig-outs can come later when your relationship is more firmly established.  For now, you want to eat like a bird! LOL! WB

Any sandwich or burger that has gravy or sauce on it.  That crap gets everywhere and you can't help but look sloppy.

Women hardly eat on dates. So, all you men out there, plan for light food even though you might be ravenously hungry smile

Anything with peanuts and seafood. Why ? Because it causes the strongest allergic reactions and that giving her food allergy on our first kiss was NOT the greatest plan ever known to man.

Garlic should also be avoided, and chicken wings... you don't want to look like it is football time after all ?

Not food, but one should surely avoid consuming beer (if he or she are not habitual of it). Because you will feel going to loo every now and than which really is very embarrassing.

Stay away from fried food.  First, it just makes things way too greasy.  And second, it can give you gas as fried food expands in your stomach as you go through the digestion process.  Why not some sushi on the first date?

I think pasta would be good to avoid.  It's not easy to eat, so chose a food that is easy and not messy to eat.
