   I adivise my daughters..
   Do the things you dream of before committing to rearing a family. Trying to do them with a family in tow will cause your family members to think they are in the way of your dreams.
   
   That is a terrible burden.
   
   Be yourself first, then add the family element.

   Take the time to do a real assessment of yourself in terms of your qualities, your skills, your desires and your dream.  It is just past the first quarter in the game of life and it is time for you to make some serious considerations.  First, don't just save money, learn about investing it. There are programs out there, start small, add to it, read and learn and make it work. If ;you have 401 Programs at work, max them out right now.  If you are buying a house, don't buy what you are very comfortable with, buy above that level....get a bit more house than you think you need. Use your talents...music, writing, whatever...develop those skills...you may be able to turn them into money in you retirement years.  Be assured that you are far more capable than whatever it is you are doing right now...whatever you are doing right now is subpar...I don't care who you are.  Find ways to apply yourself, to improve yourself, to make yourself more valuable than you were last year...then, you will have a start and it will be a good one that you will be very proud of twenty years from now.    My advice is to invest in your education because its the only asset that does not lose value over time and something that will stay with you for the entire life.
   Another thing: don`t take life too serious, avoid giving problems the importance they usually don`t have- we only have one life so live it well

   Thank you all for the answers so far, the only one I'd disagree with would have to be, respectfully, the politics. I kind of believe over-involvement in politics by youth is a major contributing factor in some of the messes we've found ourselves in.
   
   Let's be honest, one of the default principals of BEING young is an inherent lack of life experience and a generally idealistic, overly optimistic, and emotional approach to thought and decision making processes. That's a wonderful mindset to have, and one I sometimes miss dearly, but it's also a dangerous way to go about making decisions which impact society en masse.
   
   Just my two cents, but I tend to believe youth should be spending their time trying to figure out their OWN lives, save the politics for later on when you have a little more experience to base your stance on... a "leg to stand on", as it were.

   "kid, you have NO idea how lucky you are.....DONT try to grow up as fast as you can- that was my mistake- hang on to childhood and cherish it for as long as you can!!!!!!

    Short of killing anyone, do what you want. You won't be able to get away with crap like that once you turn 18. And never turn down the chance to spend time with friends. They dissapear on you sooner than you think.

    concentrate on your studies but at the same time,dont forget to enjoy your childhood or teens!! Grab every opportunity and dont be afraid of newer and unexplored paths.....venture out and discover for yourself!!!!

    Just because things seem to be going great and there is nio need to worry too much about the future,,,,,, wory about the future.

    To the 20 year old: 
    Here is my advise to you....Enjoy your 20's.  Experience life as a single person first.  Do not be in a rush to be married.  Figuire out who you are first.
    Complete your education.  A degree can never be taken away once you achieve it. 
    Save money.  Even if you only can put $5.00 away - invested something every week.  Make it a routinue
    Get involved in politics.  Do not just show up at the polls every 2nd Tuesday of November.   Know who you representatives in government and what their issues are. 
    Travel places. See the world.
    You are going to make mistakes in your life.  Life is not perfect but it is what you make it.
    Live with no regrets

    I would advise young people to not put too much stock in their peers' opinions (especially in high school) don't let them get to you, kids!
