Is asking someone to be a surragate mother for you, is it a selfish act, especially if you do...

not have any medical problem, that would prevent you from carry your baby  to full term. I saw an episode of House wives of Alanta where this lady hire a surragate to carry her baby for her, and her problem was that she was afraid that she would lose her figure, if she decided to get pregant, to me that was a selfish act. I am just wondering what this world is becoming to, when rich woman can go out and hired a womb, (just because they can) what is your input on this.

I think it is sad that society is so shallow that a woman would consider paying for a surrogate only because she is afraid to lose her figure.  That being said, if it is because you are medically unable to carry a child, I don't see anything wrong with it.

There is always adoption too.  As long as the child is going to a good and loving home, either way i don't see a problem.

Under the situation you explained, yes.
I'm not so sure that I agree with the idea of surrogate mothers anyway, but that is a different answer to a different question.

In this case I agree that it was a selfish act, when you decide to have a child you are making the choice to devote your life to properly raising that child and providing for him/her all the necesseties of life (which is a lot more then just sacrificing your figure).
In other cases I'm iffy on the subject...
I find it sad that so many people consider surrogacy before adoption..Adoption is a beautiful thing that helps a child who is already present in the world find a loving home. But some people such as single women or gay men may have a harder time adopting where as asking someone to be a surragate is a quicker process. It is not selfish if the person/couple is unable to have children. But that's only my opinion
