No, because then the black market would take over and we would have a crime syndicate that would create a lot of violence. The alcohol won't just go away.

I feel if it were to be banned it would save thousands of lives. But, if it were banned people would find something else to get addicted to.

No - There are many countries that do NOT have the fatality rates we do and do not have a drinking age. Our society and values is what is the problem not the alcohol itself

Absolutely not -- in fact, during Prohibition the fact that it was illegal actually ended up costing a lot more lives both through the surge in organized crime and through the alternatives many people found to alcohol. With relatively safe forms of alcohol unavailable, many resorted to methyl alcohol, or wood grain alcohol, as well as other nasty things which caused very severe neurological disorders and often death.

Basically, the trend nowadays is toward less control over recreational substances. Banning something only makes it even more appealing.

The problem is not alcohol or any other substance, it is why people choose to use it. Some may be depressed, some may want to escape daily stress, others just want to be less anxious. If we address the reasons why a person uses alcohol we can save them. Otherwise, like ChristineVianello said, people would find something to get addicted to.

no. it was tried already and it was called prohibition. and the times were wild. which is why that legislation was repealed. it was a no win situation. same as the war on drugs.
