   Is it really all that important to read all of the way through a recipe before starting to cook?

   it may not be important but it may make things a lot easier while you cook, especially knowing what your going to do, it might prevent you from messing up the meal!

   It's not a bad idea, so there won't be any surprises at the end.  You never know - maybe your recipe takes 3 hours to cook, or there is a frosting recipe at the end of it, and you will have to go to the store (again!) for those missing ingredients.

   It is if you want to make sure that you have all the ingredients and necessary tools to make it! When you live 30 minutes from a grocery store, it's hard to stop in the middle and go run real "quick" to get something.

   I would say that if it is a recipe you are unfamiliar with than yes, it is very important. For example, let's say you are making yeast rolls. The recipe ingredients call for 2 cups of flour which you have. If you don't read through the whole recipe though, you might not know that you need more flour when it comes time to knead the dough. Also, some recipes will claim to have a 30 minute prep time and a 20 minute cook time, but they don't tell you about the 24-48 hours of down time you need for the dough to rise unless you actually read the recipe. For recipes like that I would definitely give it a read through first.   
   
   On the other hand let's say you are making something like grilled chicken. While you might need some extra time to marinate it, you are probably not going to run into any surprises while as far as cooking time or ingredients go. In that case I would say it is fine to dive right in!

   I am reminded of the old adage......................if all else fails.....read the directions!

   Yes. You should read all the way through to know what you will need and figure out how much time it will take to make. I don't know how many times I started a recipe thinking I had everything and had to stop because I was missing an ingredient or didn't have the necessary equipment to make it.

   Yes, it is very important to read it.  The most important thing is to figure out if you have all the ingredients.  It's also nice to know how long it will take.

    I always read the entire recipe before I take it on....I don't like surprises!! One of the first things I look at is the time it takes from start to finish so I know what I'm getting into!! I've learned the hard way....!

    absolutely not. I feel recipes are more of a suggestion rather than strict instructions to be adhered to. I always end up altering something or other to my own taste
