Why is America sitting on some of the largest oil reserves in the world until they become worthless?
Why, with America sitting on some of the largest petroleum reserves in the world, is the strategy to sit on them until it is worthless? Oil IS a finite resource, but while we are developing and refining a financially viable alternative, why aren't we producing and selling TO the rest of the world instead of being dependent? Couldn't we just remove the red-tape and restrictions that prohibit development? All it would do is put hundreds of thousands of people to work, generate billions of tax dollars to reduce the deficit and totally revitalize the economy. What is wrong with that?
Oil? Become worthless? I think not.
As for the red-tape, I understand that there are environmental factors to consider. The US isn't exactly known for enforcing effective regulation, so I wouldn't be surprised if they let BP drill out oil with barrels of explosives. Not safe for the environment, and certainly not safe for workers.
Plus, there is the fact that having more oil in circulation makes people less interested in alternative energy. If oil remains the cheapest source for power, why would someone driving a recreational monster truck want to ride in a hippy sedan?
Since nobody actually cares about the environment, I feel that it is important to have artificial restrictions in place to stop the global warming that nobody seems to believe exists.
Alrighty then. That's my rant for the day.
This one is an easy one to answer. You politicians on the left that have rely heavily on the environmentalists money, and in the name of the environment, block basically all the use of our oil. What the question should be is, how can you say drilling for our oil is bad, but letting others drill it, and pay them for it is good. I agree with you Rheagl, we need to get rid of the tape, allow the drilling. But then again, if the government started created jobs, bringing money into the people's hand, and making those people less dependent on Government hand outs, the left would have nothing to scare the people with from the right. The left fears people being in control of their own lives, and will do everything they can stop it. Even if it means costing our country.
Oil will not become useless in your lifetime ( whether you are 80 or 20) or even in your grandchilds.................
Hold your reserve.........hold it until IT is what the world wants.
I , understand, that many Americans, cry out to release our "reserves"...............it IS our Ace card..............do not play it too early in the game.........once, you do it is GONE.
HOLD our own supply.............OPEC can cut off the supply..........devestations can cut off the supply...........hold our reserves............hold them.............
there is NO expiration date on oil. HOLD them until there is no other possible choice..............
They will not become " worthless" for several, many, generations..............remember muscle cars, classic autos,.............people will hold out..............we must hold out on fuel supply.......................
This is not the time to release our " reserves"..........................no, cheaper gas is not worth our independance...............I spend about $125 in fuel each week.......my hubby does a bit better at $100.....I understand the cost of my position, take the bus, if you can ( not available to me), ride your motorcycle, or your bicycle, carpool...........do what you can to save, what you can...........there will come a day, when this, too, will look 'economical' or 'cheap'................My first gallon costs .27 cents, and I walked to the store to buy it for the tractor.
HOLD YOUR RESERVES...........otherwise, the very word " reserve" loses all meaning.
FUEL will not become 'worthless' for many generations to come. HOLD IT, like it was gold.....I assure you, one day, for some markets, it will be .
An "ouch" does not require stitches!
