   Would national health insurance help you or just make you mad?
   
   Twenty percent of bankruptcies are linked to expenses from a major illness, has a major illness nearly wiped you out?

   It would just make me mad.  One size does not fit all, and I do not want my familiy's health in the hands of politicians.

   I think that to leave anybody but me and my Doctor to decide what I need or my Family Needs. NO POLITICIANS need decide

   The civilized countries in the world all have national health insurance. Healthcare in the US costs so much because of the administrative costs associated with billing and collecting. Handyman and KSchimmel; the beauty of our executive branch is that politicians are regularly left out of agency decisions. There is congressional oversight and budget allotment, but nothing more. If you had any idea at all how the government and its agencies really worked, you would not be so frightened. I do think national healthcare can be a reality in the US some day, but it will take something like a health crisis as the brainwashed masses born prior to 1965 start dying out and losing their voice in politics.

   Honestly I really don't know enough to answer. I don't think it would change the system of medical care or how the patient is processed. It would make it available to all in some manner and that is good. In my view just what would be insured in regard to the big picture is daunting. Insurance is an industry isn't it? Insurance has always placed limitations on the who, what, why, where, when, and how much of what is being insured to my understanding. So, answering your question it just confuses me.

   I'm honestly baffled how anyone can think that national health insurance is a bad thing. I know we all have this distrust of politicians, but why are big businesses more trustworthy? All they're interested in is a profit; they could care less if your family dies of a flesh eating disease; as long as they get paid. At least a politician can be voted out.
   
   Yes, there would probably be a long wait at the doctor's office, but I know a lot of people who would prefer a long wait rather than having nothing at all. Right now, most people without insurance wait until whatever ailment they have is nearly killing them before they go into the emergency room. There is no such thing as preventative care or regular doctor visits for them; it's the emergency room or nothing. The result of this is one of two things; either they end up paying a hospital bill for the next five years, or it gets forgiven by the hospital and is then added to the bills of those who DO have insurance, making the system crappy for everyone involved.
   
   I welcome any and all efforts to change the health insurance system, because the way it's been operating is an immoral, corrupt and highly damaging joke.

   I am always surprised when people oppose national healthcare because they believe it will lead to rationing and politicians making their healthcare decisions, I wonder how the 40+ million people who don't have healthcare aren't counted as people whose medical care hasn't been rationed.

   Quite frankly, I am tired of the " government " trying to protect me from myself.
   
   Speeding laws across the wide open desert, seat belts, insurance, health care, motorcylce helmets, licensing requirements, firearm safety...........it just goes on and on..........
   
   I have enough sense, to know when I feel afraid or confident, at risk or well supplied....I know when I have enough food in the pantry or need to plant a garden or go to the store.....
   
   I know the "sense" of  DANGER.......without the feds spoon feeding it to me!
   
   Let the government worry about protecting us from the mass influences coming across our borders.........THAT is their purpose.
   
   Yes, a major accident, did render my hubby, unable to work for months.  It HURT.  I did, what any 'good' wife would do.........I picked up the slack, and the kiddies (teens) accepted the new and temporary budget.  I would NOT do it any differently.
   
   I vote, "mad".

   I realize the application of such a policy would be very difficult, but it would help me.  I am 27 years old with a college degree and have NEVER had a job that provides heath insurance.  I pay to go to the eye doctor every two years because I have to, but any sickness lands me at the emergency room or urgent care.  The entire system is broken.  Doctors pay far too much for medical school and deserve to be paid well yet no one can afford it.
