Have you ever gone on an unplanned road trip?  Where did you go and how long was the trip?

Several times my wife and I would just decide to go for a drive and before you know it we were driving through several states and then make a big circle to go home.  Along the way we would stop to eat and just enjoy the scenery.

I remember a family trip when I was little, we were just going to a country race day about two hours drive from home. When we arrived it was rained out so we decided to keep going with nothing packed but the clothes on our back. So we stopped and bought toothbrushes and fresh underwear and travelled around to a few other country towns staying in caravan parks and eventually made it home a week later. It was the best family holiday we ever went on and we went on a few. Thanks Mum and Dad for having a great sense of adventure.

Wheeling, WV for 4 days. A friend of mine 'kidnapped' me and I had no clue where we were going. I don't think my friend did either. It was the craziest-most-fun-mini-vacation, ever. We ended up (accidentally) at a Hari-Krishna temple and spent the day there. We met Clay Walker (country singer) by accident also, and he gave us tickets to his concert. I had no clue who he was but enjoyed the show. It was a great time, a time I'll never forget.

My boyfriend and I left Florida to go on a semi-unplanned roadtrip together in August of 2010. We never went back to live in Florida. I don't think we ever will. We are currently living in Southern California but have lived in San Francisco and Seattle together, so far.
We are planning on going to Hong Kong next. I have been recently documenting photographs and videos from our travels via Hubpages.

Where is the best place you and your wife have ended up will wandering on the road? So far, mine was when Kevin and I didn't realize we were about to drive directly through the redwoods. it was such a magical place. Ohh! Or the tidepools!
    best wishes! keep wandering!

St. Louis to Portland, Oregon. Three days.

BTW: Does that run in your family, Allen?

My father used to do the same thing with my mom and all four of us kids in the car.
