If we came from apes, then should we not include then in our personal family tree?
Some people like to investigate where they came from and they produce detailed ancestral diagrams to show others their lineage. These things make some people proud that they come from a particular "stock" of humans. If we came from apes, then do you think it would be a great honor to our ancestors (apes) if we include them in these detailed family trees?
How far back can you trace your roots?!? My genealogy reaches a cliff about the Viking era. I am thinking my clan descended from Aliens. (Little joke.)
The latest word from Science is that apes and humankind both descended from another ancestor. My pastor says - Yes, it's God.
Either way, apes would not be in a direct line above humans on genealogy charts. LOL (and the sea anemone is almost as closely related to us, says Science).
Was that an intentional pun about apes in our family trees?
At this time, we don't have the kind of tech we would need to prove that my great grandad to the 4Th power, was a local banana trader named Grrack.
If we had that kind of technology? Sure, why not?
Humans and apes share a common ancestor, but we did not come from apes. Religion made that part up to discredit evolution. There were once many different species of humans. Now only homo sapiens remain. Make fun of science all you want, but it relies on evidence, including DNA. I'll make fun of people who trust crooked pastors who don't understand biology, chemistry, or astronomy. Religion has its place, but its not supposed to slow human understanding down with propaganda.
Hi, whoisbid! My understanding about evolution is this: if we humans actually "came from apes," there would be no apes in existence today! Let us be clear about this -- we are talking about descent from.
This is a small technicality but evolutionary theory, as I understand it, is that humans and apes are BOTH descended from a common ancestor -- a common ancestor, who as far as we know, no longer exists since humans and apes are, in a way, DERIVED from this group of creatures -- I believe this creature, which is supposed to have had features which would become both human and ape, is sometimes called the "missing link."
Well, I would have difficulty going back more than a few centuries. I'm not sure that I could even trace my lineage back to Cro-Magnon, much less all the way back to a creature that looks more like a monkey than a human. But, if the technology ever arrives, damn right I will add Caesar and Cocoa to my family tree.

Couldn't there be something else besides apes that we descended from (assuming we did)?I've heard the possibilities of an ocean being, apes, and an as yet undiscovered common hominid ancestor. What about mermaids, for example?
