For us Filipinos, the worse thing that an American president has ever done was to annex the Philippines when we have already won our freedom from Spain in 1900. We won that freedom through our own revolution, William McKinley snapped our freedom by "benevolent annexation" presumably to educate us, among others. We fought with primitive weapons against Americans who were armed with weapons that had proven their worth in the American Civil War. But we had formulated our own constitution, set up our university, and used Spanish as our official language even before the Americans could set up a military government. We have 87 dialects, the premier ones are Tagalog, Ilocano, Pampango, Ilongo, etc. Meaning we were civilized. We learn any language with facility. Dr. Gregorio Y. Zara, Ph.D. was among the first batch of scholars sent by the U.S. to U.S. universities. He finished aeronautical engineering in Michigan; not satisfied with the program there, went to France and earned a doctorate degree in nuclear physics in Sorbonne University. He robbed elbows with Marie Curie. He wrote his dissertation in French. We have alphabets, that of Tagalog and Ilocano consisting of 28 letters compared with the 26 of English language. Even the Mangyan tribes in Mindoro have their own alphabet and are writing their own sonnets. I consider having an alphabet as a measure of the intellectual capacity of any tribe or nation as it is the prime means of indicating facts and psychology and beliefs and means of communication.
We know that our country was the first victim of American imperialism, or show of it, to be used a jumping board to the China market which has materialized within the century starting with the "Open Door" policy.
The "Worst" thing an American President has ever done?
Let's see. Would that be sending many thousands of American troops to liberate your country after it was invaded and devastated by the Japanese in World War Two?
Have you ever heard of the atrocities that were committed against your people at the time - not by THE AMERICANS WHO WERE giving their own lives TRYING TO SAVE YOU?
ALSO have you ever heard of the Bataan Death March?
The Imperial Japanese Army decided to move almost 80,000 American and Filipino Prisoners of War. The brutal march resulted in the murder, torture, and starvation of many thousands of the soldiers as well as civilians.
You have only to look around your own country to see memorials to these brave, doomed soldiers and citizens. Before casting stones at my country...look at your own history.
to me, clinton takes the cake. he sat in front of a camera and lied right to the peoples faces about having sex with a member of his staff. next is bush, need i say more.
