   Having lived for so long, and now coming to the end of your life, not having done what you really wanted to do with your life, and in your life. I read this somewhere: "Old people's homes are full of people who regret the things they didn't do."

   I always hear people say, "I wish I have done that when I was younger." 
   
   Yes, people think of all the good things that they missed to do and wished they had done them and feel sorry and sad.

   Actually, the saddest thing - I think - about getting old is not getting old itself but how our culture views it.  Believe it or not, I grew up in a nursing home.  Atypical, I know.  But, I came to love and respect the elderly.  They have wisdom and hard-earned knowledge that our culture doesn't tap into very well at all.  Due to our hectic, crazy lives, we often resort to putting people in nursing homes until they die.  But, it's not easy finding an alternative.  So many people don't have the time, resources or other family around to take on the responsibilities of caring for an older person.  It's painful, too, to watch elderly people deteriorate from Alzheimer's or some other affliction.  But, there are so many positives.  Older people have been there and done that.  The only difference might be that we have different "tools" (i.e. technology) and slang.  But, they can be so gentle and so loving - not always, of course.  I have such a soft spot for our elders.  They are some of the most incredible souls I know.

   I think the saddest thing is losing your independence. It's difficult to have to depend on others for everything.

   I work in a nursing home and I think that dementia escape from reality, the body is old, but the soul never grows old and old people are aware that they do not allow goin to experience another memorable moments.

   When one approaches it passively.  Doing nothing simply won't stop aging and so while at a age when one can do so much, give your best and God will do the rest!

   Probably the full realization of things which you know you will never do. Such as traveling to a foreign country or riding a horse. Things you never had time for now are impossible because you are too old.
