....anything written by that guy called the epigramman (in a shameless attempt here at self promotion) because he always writes with the cinema and music in mind - and don't worry it's not just about me - I'm coming over to pay a visit - lake erie time ontario canada 10:29pm
The book "How Starbucks Saved My Life" is based on a real story. Turning it into a movie would be inspirational.
Same Kind of Different As Me - true story and incredibly inspirational.
American Gods - Neil Gaiman
He is one the most talented storytellers of the 20th & 21st (so far) centuries.
It'll be this teen fiction book called Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin. Its about a story of a girl who died and went on board something like a cruise ship (in the afterlife) where she meets her grandmother and some other characters. In that version of an afterlife, the 'ghosts' ages backwards like Benjamin Button and reincarnates as a baby back on Earth.
Its a very interesting concept of an afterlife and in the story it talks about how she, as the dead girl deals with her own losses and becomes obsessed with checking on her family's lives.
A thousand splendid suns by the critically acclaimed author of the well known novel - The Kite runner which also had been adapted into a film. This book is famous and engaging. If it is turned into a movie that is faithful to the story of the book, I would immediately view it.
Epigramman, I'm right there with you. I would love to see my novel, A Distant Calling turned into a movie--it would be great fun.
Also would love to see The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan turned into a movie. She really writes so well and her trilogy is fun zombie stuff.
Not one book, but a series called "The Mitford Years" by Jan Karon. The village of Mitford is patterned after a small town in North Carolina called Blowing Rock, and the main character is an Episcopalian pastor named Father Tim Kavanagh who has managed to reach the age of 60 without having a pet, raising a child or taking a wife. The series chronicles how he adjusts to having all three come into his life while continuing to minister to the residents of Mitford, not all of whom are members of his congregation. Spiritually uplifting without being "preachy".
I love the Special Agent Pendergast books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. It's hard to believe that they haven't been turned into movies as Pendergast is just so clever and persistent in solving his cases. I've read that one of the very early books featuring him was done in film but I can't find a copy The one I'm reading now - The Wheel of Darkness - or Fever Dream would be my top picks.
Any book by Marisa de los Santos. She writes the kind of book that you cannot put down once you start to read. Also, House Rules by Jodi Piccoult. It involves a teenager who has Asperger Syndrome getting involved in a murder mystery. It is so full of twists and turns and unexpected surprises.
I have a lot of books I would like to see turned into movies
1) Andre Nortons the Solar Queen
2) Roberta Gellis' Roselynde series
3) Nora Roberts "Death In..." series
4) E E Smith's Skylark of Space series
5) georgette Heyer's the Tailsman Ring
The list is endless; most movies that start as books are better than movies that start as a script.
I would like to see "The Regulators by Richard Bachman" turning into a feature film. One of his other novels, "Thinner," was put into film very successfully. I think The Regulators will bring in more of an audience, and I really want to see the story act out in front of me. It is a very intense read, and I wonder if the movie would be more intense.
When posed the question about what books should be turned into movies, these two books come into mind...
