   I don't believe it's as simple as that. Yes education is great but if in a economic depression that MBA Grad is digging ditches.

   Money brings about opportunities for better developments such as in the sector of education like books, building infrastructures for schools and colleges, scholarships, aids etc. Without having the money to back all of this up, educating the poor cannot be a possibility.

   Poverty is a resultant of a lack of money and opportunity. If only ten percent of the globe's population owns eighty-five percent of the total wealth, then a huge discrepancy occurs. Nobody chooses to be poor, sure some people like alcoholics and drug dealers make terrible decisions, but substance abusers are a small minority of impoverished people. Blaming the victim, in this case the extremely poor, is a tactic that can often come out of the right wing and conservative bases in society. In reality, not the American Dream Land, poverty is the direct resultant of unequal distribution of wealth. Education is just a side effect, as the richer folks can send their children to better schools and for longer times. Where as the poor are forced to often put school as a second priority and embrace working at much earlier times.

   Money is a tool. It has no morals and it cannot imbue them into those who posses it. Money cannot make people poor, any more than education can make people rich. GIVING people money never stops them from being poor, either.
   
   Knowledge is NOT power. Knowledge is also just a tool. ACTION is Power. History is filled with uneducated men who created and amassed great fortunes. The college town I live in is littered with highly educated yet unemployed 20 somethings, who are KILLER World of Warcraft players.
   
   World Poverty is a direct result of the stifling of creativity and individuality, brought about by the soft slavery (or outright slavery) resulting from Socialist meddling. Dependence upon any entity is a hallmark of slavery. Man has been domesticating livestock for thousands of years, by providing for ALL of the animal's needs. All we ask in return is that they behave exactly as we direct, work as we require, and we can EAT THEM, if we wish.
   
   Dependence is an insidious form of soft slavery, and slavery does NOT engender creativity or self reliance. Socialism, Communism, Progressive-ism, State-ism... They all require dependence and servitude to the Ruling Elite. ALWAYS at the barrel of a gun. If what you create can be taken from you legally, where is your incentive to do squat?
   
   If all of the "rich" people in the world, right now today, pooled every possession and bit of wealth they had, and spread it equally to every soul on the globe, the people who were poor yesterday would be poor again in very little time, and the people who created all that wealth in the first place would eventually have it all back, and then some. Because they would be willing to innovate, produce and profit from the product of their own minds.
   
   If you want to ALLEVIATE world poverty, work to export free market Capitalism to every corner of the globe, get the people who produce NOTHING (governments) off the backs of the people who do (private enterprise) and allow people all over the world to keep at LEAST 95% of the money they earn or generate.
   
   You will see innovations and creativity explode, bringing with it the kind of wealth Mankind deserves to have, everywhere.
   
   Problem. Solved.

   Money and education are just the tools. How effective you use them is vital.  The real cause of poverty in the developing nations is bad governance, and corruption. Coupled together, they sabotage everything - economic development, quality of public services, investment climate, individual entrepreneurship, and so on. The net result is creation of a demotivating atmosphere where helplessness and voicelessness rules.
   
   Of course, the role of colonial legacy that depleted resources and undermined the usual growth process can't be underestimated. It was colonialism that created today's "first" world and "third" world.
