What are your tips for taking care of young children during a wedding?

I have lots of weddings to attend this year with my 2.5 year old and 6 month old.

Will these be kid friendly functions or will your little ones be the only children there? If that is the case do your best to get a sitter for them. You deserve a chance to enjoy yourself.  But if there will be other children there then its a great time for both children to socialize, yes even the 6 month old. For your youngest just have enough diapers and things for him/her to gnaw on. For the toddler, bring some items with you such as crayons, coloring books, magna doodles, matching games. . These are great table top activities that are good to offer during speeches. But keep in mind their powers tend to wear off after a few minutes, so if you present such items from the beginning your child will shortly tire of it.. I bet if you gave the 2.5 year old his own disposable camera you'd get some very amusing shots. Again because both are so young I'm sure there will be some fun adults at the wedding that wouldn't mind playing parent for you while you hit the dance floor.

While I understand that you are a family and would like your children to attend, it might be appropriate for them to do so.  They won't remember the wedding anyway so they really won't miss anything.

Most of them will be family weddings. The first will be my brother-in-law's, and my kids are his only nephews, so they're definitely going (the bride's only nephews are older and thus, will be the ringbearers). The idea to have games for him is good. The idea to give him a camera is even better...he loves technological stuff already. I think there will be some helping hands but I obviously want their grandparents to enjoy the wedding too and the other guests don't have children, so I'm not sure who else can help. I'm just worried because I'm helping to decorate and set up, so I may be distracted. Maybe bring my sling or carrier for the baby?
The other family weddings will definitely have (my) family available to help. And as for my friend's wedding...they want the kids there because they haven't met them yet, but I don't know if there will be any other kids there. My husband and I will have to tag-team it I guess (one of us step out if needed). Thanks for your suggestions!
