What are the benefits and potential risks associated with anger?
Is it better to hold it in or express it? And, is it healthy not to get angry at all?
I can't imagine there would be a benefit from having anger or angry feelings. The risks are possibly high blood pressure that could potentially lead to a stroke if the blood pressure reaches the danger zone.
Anger is the most powerful emotion and it makes people easy to manipulate. We are bread and raised to be an angry civilization. Angry people are easy to control. The media is fully capable of controlling the angered for gaining support for issues a rational person would never support.
Without anger we wouldn't have the political party system. Without anger we wouldn't be able to control world affairs. Without anger capitalism would fall apart more than it already has. Without anger people wouldn't vote.
We don't vote to get a perfect person in office we vote to try to prevent the person we are most angry about from getting in office.
Anger is ignorance and ignorance is easily manipulated. Lots of risks and benefits. Today we exist based almost solely on our 'beliefs' and that is the major risk of being angry. We pick and choose what be want to 'believe' and no matter what we 'believe' it is more times than not, completely wrong. As long as we stay angry we will be happy and content being wrong.
Anger is an intense emotion expressed due to unfairness, loss, oppression or simply a cry for positive change. It can produce benefits if managed but in many cases, it always gets out of hand causing more damage and regrets.
We've seen nations destroyed by angry demonstrators plunging them into more financial and human loss. While anger maybe valid, the response might have serious consequences.
The Bible cautions against allowing anger to control our lives. "Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly"(Proverbs 14:29). "Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, For anger resides in the bosom of fools' (Ecclesiastes 7:9).
