What are the best art and crafts for very young toddlers to do?
1 year to 5 years old? What fun art activities can they do?
The great thing about young kids is that anything can be arts and crafts to them. My kids love cutting, taping things (I never thought I'd buy so many rolls of scotch tape!), and gluing things. Gather up some construction paper, toilet paper rolls, googly eyes, string, and stickers, lay it out on the table, and let them have at it!
Here are some outer space creations my kids put together with old CDs, empty apple sauce cups, and stickers!

construction paper and stickers .. they love this .. draw and tree and give either apple stickers or bingo blotters to add " fruit " to their tree, they can also glue but will need supervision, color, or you can buy foam items and add the foam type stickers .. sometimes Michael's has a little kit that includes all they need to make a project or have a tub with alot of the foarm stickers .. my friend uses the above ideas at her daycare .. the kids love it
One of my favorite craft activities when I was very little was to play with a salt based dough. It was made of nothing but flour, salt and water and so was completely edible (though it tasted bad enough you really didn't want to). I played with this dough myself as a toddler and also when I was a bit older and could make more complicated shapes.

What is your opinion: How can you tell, or what IS, the difference between "real art" and "crafts"?

Why do some parents feel the need to put children as young as four through beauty pageants?I have a four year old daughter, and love watching her grow up and learn new things. But having seen toddlers and tiaras, I would like to know why parents seem to want to put their children through these...
