Why must we 'spare the rod and spoil the child'?
It disturbs me very much when I see my grandchild not being corrected by his parents for incessantly bad, disrespectful, disruptive or bullying behavior. Merely saying gently to him that he should not be doing whatever he is doing does not show him it is wrong. I just want to give his little bottom a quick smack to stop him, and then explain why. .
What disturbs me acutely is when I see children hitting their parents, and being gently reprimanded! The natural progression from this is the discarding of parents when they are old and infirm. Where is our society going?
We are turning into fat, lazy, easily irritative and always complaining people because we spare the rod by law. It is irritating and most of the time I just want to hit other individuals on the head for their stupidity.
no.. I do not believe that parents should spare the rod and spoil the child. Especially during these most trying days of moral-downgrade in the society, it is essential that children be taught the right way that they should follow.
Essential aspects of human development depend on proper discipline. Nevertheless, it is advised that parents be careful as to how they apply the rod as a form of discipline. Sometimes, when temper is lost, the discipline becomes more of a dreadful punishment that children will detest instead of respect.
Regarding this matter, I would like to share some of the helpful hubs that could define what proper discipline is about:

selfishness is a bad thing. And you are full of it. You said "I just want". That is selfish to me. They are not your children. You should not want. None of your business.

Whenever my son comes home from his godparents' house, it feels as though I've taken 2 steps backward in parenting. He leaves with respect and discipline and returns a whiny, disrespectful, defiant kid who I barely recognize. When I'm there with him I use my own rules, his godmother knows how we...
