Do people who smoke cigarrates believe all the talk about the dangers of smoking?

Do people who smoke cigarrates believe all the talk about the dangers of smoking or do they see it as merely hot air? Or could it be that they believe the dangers are real but are helpless to kick the habit?

Sorry: It is too bad there is no way to correct a question once posted. The correct spelling is CIGARETTES!

As a smoker, yet not able to answer for all smokers,I believe about 60% and believe the rest is BS. The number one cause of death in the U.S. is  Salmonellainfections  http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr59/nvsr59_08.pdf

However, even though I smoke, I despise it! I do believe it contributes to other causes of death, though not the cause. More like an accomplice. Just an opinion. Based on the data by NCHS / CDC I have a greater probability of death from my diabetes than my smoking both as a cause and an accomplice.

Great hub article Idea for someone maybe. thanks for asking the questin Joan.

I think your latter point is true.  Just the way a heavy person know theys are endangering their health by being overweight, the smoker knows how bad it is for them.  But knowing something intellectually isn't always enough to conquer the addiction.

Addictions are very complex things and very hard to understand.

I think cigarette smokers know the troubles and dangers of smoking but they are to addicted to it that they have a hard time removing it from their system. Be addicted to something is really a hard habit to break, you need to have discipline and control to overcome it.

i smoke and i realize it isn't healthy but i'm also smart enough to know that the statistics are absurd. if a person smoked 25 years ago for 6 months and then they end up with lung cancer, it's blamed on smoking. the stats on smoking are so unrealistic , it isn't even funny. here's a stat that i find strange. about 22% less people smoke then they did 20 years ago but lung cancer has risen by 17%. explain that because i can't. the way that smoking is made out to be would make it so just smelling the smoke should mean a death sentence but anyone with a mind knows it isn't so.
