Has the seriousness of HIV/AIDS awareness fallen in the United States? The World?
Are outreach methods by local and national groups effective enough for our current population? Is the younger generation truly aware of the protection they need?
In the United States, one out of three people have AIDS. The only protection I can think of is condoms, but those are irritating. So I don't know of any someone would use.
Iburmaster~ Honestly?!...One in three! Wow! Condoms are irritating, but aren't they worth using if you have a 33% chance of contracting the virus?! Atleast until you know and trust the person you are being intimate with well enough and are using some kind of birth control if he/she/you is/are not ready to be a parent.
Missolive~ Clearly if one in three people in the states have been diagnosed with AIDS/HIV then awareness and education on protecting oneself has drastically fallen! It's important for the younger generation to protect themselves with 'rubber raincoats', but even more importantly, they need to be taught to respect themselves and to not 'give it' to just anyone... Only once they are of the legal age and have a partner that they have been 'going steady' with for long enough to truly trust them. Even condoms are not 100% safe and there are so many other STI's out there...along with the risk of underage pregnancy!...It's scary!
However, we (as parents) are more responsible for our children's wellbeing than any outreach and national groups!!
I think people have relaxed some since the early years because HIV is no longer the automatic death sentence it was. People look at Magic Johnson for example who has been HIV Positive for over 20 years and they see he's holding up well. That however should not cause people to believe there is a cure!
As for Lburmaster comment she is way off with her statistic that 1 in 3 U.S. Citizens has AIDS. There are over (300 Million people in America) which would mean there would be 100 Million with the disease!
The following informatiion comes from The National Institutes of Health 980 Thousand AIDS cases in America since 1981 and up to 1 Million people may be HIV positive. More focus these days is being placed on other parts of the world such as Africa.

Last but not least we live in a media driven world that is always looking for (the next big thing) whether it's an oil spill, hurricane, earthquake in Hati, Wars...etc Before AIDS came along people were constantly talking about Herpes. Today you hear nothing about it, and yet there is no cure for it either.
Diseases that are contracted via sex will never get the same attention/respect as Breast Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes, or other forms of cancer (colon, lung, prostate..etc)

I have new neighbors, needless to say it has not started out as a good relationship as one of them said to me in all seriousness that he would kill my cat if he caught him in his yard again. They've been there a week, I've been here 7 years. I've never had problems with my cat in my neighborhood in...

Do you believe the sovereignty of the United States is being eroded - diminished?I see my beloved country, the United States, eroding and being diminished. What disgusts me the most is that some of our own people are deeply involved in doing this. Can we come back from this? I'm not so sure. Why is...
