What are some large/long-running conspiracies?
I have a theory that large-scale conspiracy theories are false because the bigger a conspiracy gets the faster it will fall apart. That the more people get involved the more likely it becomes that someone will screw up or have a fit of conscience and blow the lid off the whole thing.
So what are some good historical examples of large conspiracies, PROVEN, SINCE DISMANTLED, AND WIDELY ACCEPTED AS REAL? How much success was had as far as number of people involved or length of time keeping up the ruse before it fell apart?
